I am in need of a good hunting load and bullet for a 10 twist 243.I have used the rem. corelokt but they don't hold together.

Re: 243

My 26" 10 twist doesn't like anything bigger than 90g (Scirocco II and SCENAR's) 87g Berger's and Hornady Vmax fly most excellent. For a cheap bullet that works fantastic try 85g Sierra game kings. if you rifle doesn't like boattails try the berger 88g FB. R19 and R17 work for me.

Consider the Sierra 100gr SPT. They hold together. But I've never shot it from 1 in 10. Assuming the Core-Lokt was 100gr????

Thanks fellas. This is gun that I let kids use to take their first deer.Last year we killed 9 with it but no pass throughs.we found all deer but the blood was very weak.I was looking at mabyee trying the Barnes x bullets but are not familiar with them.Yea the corelokt's were 100gn. And shot excelent they just don't hold togather.

hello super90,for my nieces 243 got loaded;41.8grains of rl-19 ,with hornady 100gr btsp,at 2.640 coal. win.brass, wlr primer not the fastest load out there.but very accurate .half to 3/4 size 5shot groups at 100yrds
out of a savage mdl 10 package youth gun ,no accutrigger either or bedding, ithink its a 22" barrel. not sure of the twist.made it one of the most fun guns to shoot.didnt have any problems dropin deer at180 paces boolet went strait thru ,and it was (DRT) hope this will help.

85 grain TSX.....ONLY way to rock with the .243Win.

Run 'em in the last node at the upper end of the load parameters.....I like H414/Lapua brass/CCI 250 primers.

Seat 'em .050" off the lands......

I could bore you with a shitload of pics of dead stuff......but this one says all that needs saying.

200+ yards, shoulder to offside hip, straight through and into the dirt....bang freaking flop.

Tripwire I know that smile all to well.Tell that young lady congrats. Thanks for the help. The 243 is good round and I have never lost a deer with it but I think that a all copper like the tsx would hold togather if a bone was hit and still pass through.

Re: 243

My deer load is 40.3 grains of IMR 4831 topped with a 95 grain Hornady SST bullet. I've used both Winchester and CCI primers with this load and great luck. It shoots sub moa groups for me, and tends to anchor deer. If the deer do run, they don't seem to make it more than 10-15 yards. Several have been DRT though. I've been impressed with the SST's performance. I've gotten a pass through each time, with the exception of one that was shot head on.

I'd like to the try the 85 grain Barnes TSX, but I've got a lot of the SST's to use up, plus they shoot so well, I just hate to change right now. When I run out of SST's I may switch over.
