i just started reloading .ive been shooting blackhills 190 match for hunting and everything else.the gun is a rem xcr tlr 300wm .ive tried h1000 and 208 amaxs and the 190 sierra match but it was not very consistent. so i bought some 7828ssc and stade with the 190s and still no luck.i started at the lands and now .050 off lands how much further sould i go or should i change powder again?

Re: load development question

How exactly are you testing your loads.......

Re: load development question

I think your powder choices are in the right burn rate. I would change bullets first. Berger has come out with some good .30 cal bullets lately.
Sometimes a load just falls into place, then there is the other times. I'm there right now too, my loads shoot fine, just can't get rid of the pressure. I'm lucky, I have a friend with 65 different kinds of powder sitting on his shelves.
For me, getting rid of a box of bullets is easier than trying to use a pound of powder that didn't work.

Re: load development question

What is your twist? How do the handloads compare to factory? I would find powder and bullet combo that works before experimenting with seating depth. Can you get to a chronograph?

Re: load development question

the gun has a 10 twist.i do have a crony. the 208s was running 2965 with 77.6 of h1000 and the 190s was running 3090 with 77.7 with h1000 .im using fed 215 m primers.im shooting 3 three shot groups.it was not consistant with all the groupings.so i changed to 7828 ssc.it is more consistant but the groups are not getting smaller.the blackhills was all .5 and smaller if ido my part.what could be my problem? thanks for the replys.

Re: load development question

Again, how are you testing these loads?

Ladder, OCW, WAG?

Re: load development question

im just shooting at three different targets with three shots per target.im loading 75 grains of 7828ssc .i started at .002 off lands untill i was getting presure signs thats why at 75 gr. then i started sucken the bullet in .005 at a time.im at .050 off lands now.im just getting barely under one inch.

Re: load development question

I don't have my numbers in front of me, but your mv seems high for 208s. Barrel length is more than 26"? No pressure signs? I would stick with one seating depth (I start touching the lands which is 2.929" to the ogive on 208s. ) Try stepping the loads down and see if the groups improve. Many people will tell you 2850ish is a good mv for that bullet weight. I'm sure you can good numbers from other 208 shooters.
Berger 215s over 75.5 grs of H1000 get me 2800, but I will bump it up on the next range trip.
