Hello Everyone,
I've searched high and low for any type of guideline on when and how often to clean a rifle barrel. I would like to hear everyone's opinion as well as an explanation as to why you do what you do.
Thank you in advance!!

Re: Barrel Cleaning Intervals

When your accuracy starts to drop is what most people go with. Even then I just run a few patches to get the major crap out and then it's back out again. I have about 900 rounds through my 22-250 and I think I have cleaned it once at about 300 rounds just to see how dirty it was and haven't touched it since. I think I am about 700 rounds since the last cleaning on my 300WM and it still shoots good as well.

What VarmintSlayer said. My opinion (FWIW), any time you put something down your barrel, you run the risk of scratching the bore, throat, anything.

I cleaned my 308 just last week because it was going to sit in the safe (poor baby) for a few weeks. Couple patches, a little light lube, and down for a nap.

I run a dry patch through before I shoot again. I have ZERO POI shift, but I have a top notch barrel from a top notch builder.
