Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

I have Sako brake on TRG and shooting smks over 45 gr of varget I have no felt recoil to speak of.

I'm building a new 308 rifle and since I've never fired one with a Badger brake I'm wondering if anyone who has shot both could give me any kind of comparison.

I would think Sako is more effective based on number of slots on each side but I have no other basis to draw that conclusion.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

When you say "Badger Brake" I'm going to make the assumption you're talking about the FTE and not the Thruster since the FTE is more along the style of the Sako.

Having shot a variety of brakes I don't really think they're is a difference in about 99% of them. There are a few where recoil reduction really stands out, but for the most part in a blind study I don't think anyone could tell a difference.

With that being said, let the other factors influence your decision. Cost, availability, aesthetics, etc. If you're looking for pure performance, aesthetics or cost no object, I would look at the following:

JP Tank
Roedale
Fat Bastard (APA)

With those you will feel a significant difference. Other than those, it's probably a toss up.

The only thing I would stay away from is any brake that vents in a 360* pattern.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

I have both the Sako for my TRG42 and the Badger FTE for my 300WM.

If I started from scratch I would go with Badger FTE over Sako.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

I have the Sako brake and the FTE brake and I would say they are about equal on the .308 (TRG22 and 5R).

I will say that I'm not comfortable shooting my TRG42 .338 with the standard Sako brake so far. The 300g rounds kicked my butt. I've been thinking of trying the JP Tank brake or an APA FB.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

The FTE brake cuts recoil more than others because it weighs about 1.5 pounds....ok, probably not that much but that sucker is a beast. I could not really tell the difference between it and the FSC30 it replaced on my 300wm. Unless you want to be able to remove your brake at times I would go with a brake from APA like the Fat Bastard or any bastard for that matter. These brakes don't just divert the blast 90 degree's to each side. They divert it at a backwards angle as to actually pull the rifle forward drastically reducing muzzle brake. The blast/concussion is still not any worst for the shooter than any other brake.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

I'm confused as to how there's fault in a Sako brake on a Sako TRG. What has Sako done wrong? Like, in the last hundred years, what has Sako done wrong?

Not knocking others, just am wondering how there can be a need for a different brake on a Sako rifle.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

I'm not saying anything is wrong with the Sako brake. It's just that I enjoy shooting my 6mm better and I'd like my .338 to act a little more like it's brother and stop kicking the shit out of me

First, who is bashing the Sako brake?

Second, he says he's building a new 308 rifle. Doesn't say anything about a different brake on a Salo rifle.

Re: Sako brake compared to Badger FTE

Having both I would say theyre the same recoil wise.

I personally think the FTE looks cool but thats just my opinion.

The FTE actually looks really close to the newer AI brake.

Both dont kick up dust when in prone.
