I recently picked up my 30p-1 after a long wait. Went out and shot it today. The reviews are right... it's awesome. It was time to clean my rifle and when I pulled the can off I noticed it left a lot of carbon on the muzzle end and it really caked on the crown. It's a R&D precision 308 with a really nice polished crown at the end of the bartlein barrel. What do you guys use to clean the crown? I decided to very gently drimel it with a felt pad and rouge. I'm not a clean freak but figure the crown is important to keep clean.

Rifle cans really don't need to be cleaned. I maintain mine by using CLP and nylon brushes. If after thousands of rounds you really want it cleaned, look for a place that offers ultrasonic cleaning services.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm talking about cleaning the rifle crown. The suppressor causes a lot of carbon build up on the rifle crown.

On my 22 with suppressor, which is of course a different beast, I soak the muzzle with Wipeout for a few hours. It removes the vaporized lead and carbon deposits quite well. You might try it. Dremel+crown do not belong in the same sentence, IMO.

+1! You are wasting your time cleaning the crown every time. When you do your "big" cleaning every 500 rounds or so.... then give it a little scrub. Otherwise I leave it be. Wipe down the rifle with an oily cloth and put it up. Caliber dependent I don't clean until accuracy starts to degrade.

Use a rusty saw ... cut .25 inch off the barrel and re-crown with your dremel after each use. when you run out of barrel just go get a new one.

I twirl the rifle, bore down on the cement out front.

Seriously though, I am about 3 months into form 4 on
My first can (a TB 30p-1 also) and the above advice is good to know.

I don't clean it. The crown cleans itself when you shoot it.

I do clean the threads after a couple hundred rounds because it can get very gunky.

Damn. Leave the crown alone or just use a solvent, soak, and your thumb/ q tips.

Agree......felt is harmless though if your careful.

That doesn't even make sense.... if you have to be careful with something, it's not harmless!

I clean the crown when I clean the rifle. Some where between 100-200 rounds. Some guys clean more, some guys clean less. It's just whatever works for you. I feel my rifle doesn't shoot as well after about 200 rounds. Maybe it's all in my head but it's sure not hurting anything. I just use some Butch's and a nylon brush to remove the stuff off the crown.

As far as the can goes; I just cleaned mine after about 3000 rounds. I can tell you I will NEVER wait that long again. It lost almost 2 oz after SEVERAL cycles in an ultrasonic cleaner. Chunks of carbon the size of my pinky nail were falling out of it.

soak in vinegar for a bit. 24 hrs will loosen the carbon and it will pop of with little effort.
