Anybody Golf on here?

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I played a ton about 6 or 7 years ago, i would be out on the range or playin 9 after school 6 days a week. Learned to play at 15 (self taught by looking at pictures of swings like tiger and phil frame by frame). Ended up playin in high school my junior and senior year and walked on to my college team as the number 2 guy.

Notable courses i've played: Southern Hills Country Club (Tulsa,OK) I was one of the first to play the course after they re did it in 05' shot an pretty darn solid 78 from the tips as a 16 y.o.

Ceadar Ridge Country Club (wpga event held there every year), course is very pretty and quite nice.

Played Pebble once, quite an experience.

I played for the first time yesterday at a very short and easy course and shot bogey golf which i was half way ok with after not touching a club in quite a few years.

Definitely miss playing, may have to pick it back up when i get out of the military next year.

Golf is for pussies.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I golfed today for the first time in a LONG time. its been about 11 months since I swung a club. Just been too busy with family and work stuff.

I used to be a pretty decent golfer!!! LOL, But for some reason I did not remember playing so many balls out of the trees!!!

I shot a 79 today with two mullys. One on the front and one on the back.

Three years ago I played 150 rounds, Two years ago I played 175 rounds, and last year I played 2 rounds. And this was my first this year.

At my best I was at a plus 2. Did not show that today though!!!

Get out and golf guys! Have fun

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I went out Saturday with my oldest daughter. She's only been playing for a little less than a year but she's already starting to tag the ball.

At the rate she's progressing, she'll be kicking my ass in another year or two as my game is pretty hopeless (I'm a mental case, pure and simple...). She on the other hand got lessons from the beginning and attends regular sessions with a USGA golf teacher!

Of course I attend those sessions with her as well...

Anyway, I'm coming along. Just having trouble dealing with the loss of distance I have accrued over the years and continue to press too hard, in a vain attempt to recapture my mighty youth!

Seriously, I am so glad she decided to learn the game and have more fun playing now than I have in years!

Its funny you say that because every time I play at work Im always envisioning where to set up the perfect shooting range.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I don't have time to even think about golf. Shooting gets all of my focus, I suck at golf, but I seem to do well with shooting. Im sticking with the guns.

Even par?

I dislike you now...Though I can relate on the choke on 18...

Just the envy talking.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

what a waste of good rifle ranges. still beautifull land though.

Miura irons are the best. You'll love them. I know someone who has to sets of them. Just a little more than I want to spend right now.

I do have two sets of Mizuno Irons MP-67 and an old set of T-zoids Pro IIs. I am currently playing with the T-ziods. My kids are getting a little older so I hope to find some more time to play in the future. Right now my handy cap would be golf itself.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

My low round is a 69 shot 4 years ago on a 6500 yard course, 128 slope and 71.1 rating. Low 9 is a 32 and I bogeyed the last hole because I hit too much club - hit the ball 5 yards too far. It was pretty amazing being -5 through 7.

Still haven't played any this year. I need to go out and beat some balls just to make sure I can.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I'm currently a +3.5 handicap and have been frustrated by this game since I was about 10. Pretty much everything in my bag is Taylormade except for my wedges, which are Vokeys. Irons are TM TP MC 3,4,5,6 and MB 7,8,9,P. Wedges are Vokey SM4 54 and 58 degrees. Driver is R11 TP and 3 wood is R11 TP T3. Putter is TM Ghost Spider 35 inch. Current ball is Bridgestone B330-S. As far as top 100 courses go, some I've played include Pinehurst #2,#4 #7, and #8, Kinloch, Golden Horseshoe Green and Gold, Bay Creek (Palmer and Nicklaus), Bide-A-Wee (Public), Bethpage Black, and Kingsmill (River).

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I sold a couple of Scotty Cameron's on here - I have another I am looking to sell.

This one was "blinged" up by the Scotty Cameron Custom Shop - I'll post some pics & all the specs later tonight. I had a nice collection going, but my love of custom rifles has been hard on the wallet!!

Gimme a shout if interested - thanks!!

Golfing is a waste of a perfectly good shooting range. It's also incredibly boring to watch - might as well watch the grass grow.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I used to play 3 days a week, work got the best of me and when not working and traveling I am shooting much more.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

Played in high school and college. Low round is 65 on an easy course. Shot 29 on 9 holes three or four times. I haven't picked up a club in 8 plus years. I really don't miss it too much, but I can still watch the back nine on Sunday and appreciate how good these guys are. I watch all the majors start to finish with a cold Coors Light in tow.

I just went today and it was a blast, hadn't been able to go out yet this year because of lack of buddies that golf in the area. Hit a very nice birdy on a par 3, landed right in front of the pin then sunk the 4 ft put.

Arctic, that feeling is the same as the one you get making a cold bore 1000ish rifle shot. All the fundamentals come together in the right combination to make the hardware do what it's supposed to and the result is that you feel like the club/rifle is driving itself. Golf in a way IS a rifle range, just a different projectile brother.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

So I just played like 9-10 days in a row. Been sucking ass though. I'm blaming the heat. Been around 80 every day, last 2 days I shot 79 but they were horrible 79's. For example, yesterday I started the round birdie-double bogey-birdie-double bogey, lol. All of the bogeys and doubles I had were because of some dumb ass shit I did like chunk a wedge from 75 yards after a perfect 290 drive down the middle. You'd be suprised how many times that happened. Also I was missing birdie putts like it was my job. I had 6 birdies in the last 2 days but I must have missed 5 more from like 8 feet or less. The day before I almost had three birdies in a row but the middle one I missed a 4 footer that should have been really easy lol.

Really liking the irons though.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

havent picked up the sticks in 4 years... quit working in iraq about 3 months ago. Hit a 41/44 last week. I might be able to get to 78/80 by the end of the season, we will see.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

Oh I forgot to mention, just had a lesson with Steve Bosdosh (top 100 teacher) and he's got me all messed up. He's trying to lessen my hip and shoulder turn on the backswing and increase it before impact. I know he's right but it just feels really weird.

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

I haven't played a round in far too long, lack of funds really. There was a time, back in '03 thru '05 where I was playing almost once a week, normally just 9 holes but occasionally me and my friends would go for all 18. kind of hard to do 18 when you go play right after work and still have to get in enough sleep to be able to function at work the next day.

I have a set of Cobras, and at my best I was able to play one round scoring par overall, was averaging around 5 to 7 over. Of course if I were to go play now I'd probably be marking all as circle 10s lol. Once I heal up from the motorcycle crash I do want to play, maybe in the spring.

Never got to play at any fancy courses, there was one private course that we played at once in Syracuse, NY that was nice, they let us play because we were military. I did visit Pebble Beach once, surprised security didn't come up to me and tell me I must leave for obviously not being rich lol. That club house had some insane prices.

Love those mango-scented ice towels at Cowboys club, and the hamburders aren't bad!

I played for about 5 years, before I started shooting and back stuff came along. That said, my golf experience definitely helped my wind calls in shooting.
Played many great courses - my first 18 holes was Torrey Pines, to which I returned several times. Golf school at Kapalua several times (Ritz has great packages), LaCosta. Played Kapalua & sister courses many times, all the major courses on Oahu & the Big Island, Pelican Bay (with a 348 yrd. drive thanks to cart path bounce), Scottsdale, Dallas National twice. I was never great since I only played once a week, but managed to "keep up" hitting off the men's whites with scratch golfers so I did OK.

Yeah, except that shooting has practical value :p

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

tried golfing a few times.just didnt take. with alcohol on board and some likeminded friends it is fun

Re: Anybody Golf on here?

Even par 36 on the front today, then fucking 6 over on the back for a 78, including a snowman. Pisses me off. I was 3 under on par 5's today, but the one I missed an eagle putt from like 17 feet that was pretty easy, then missed the birdie putt from about 4 feet. It should have went in though, I think it was a volcano cup.
