Gunsmithing Interior and exterior threading

I am wonding if anyone knows if it is possible to do any threading using hand held or some machine tools used for pipe threading. They use dies and lathes just the same. I problably answered my own question but I am interested in a solid answer.

I want to be able to do some of my own work as I go such as installing an oversized bolt knob on R700 bolt etc.

I have installed bolt knobs using the lathe and I have used a bench grinder and die. Both work great. Practice makes perfect. I prefer the grinder and die.

Most shops will do it for $35.
