Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Does anyone have the status of how many spots are still open?

I have had the worst luck lately. I wasn't able to get my app out yet since my sister-in-law had twins on Tuesday night, and I just got home today. If I don't make the cut, at least I won't be changing twin diapers for the next two years.... There's always a bright side....

Joe is in Idaho at the moment and I'm not sure if he will be on here this week. He does check his e-mail pretty regular though.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Thanks bmarc69. I got in touch with Joe and sent my registration payment today, so I should be in.

I'm in. Can't Wait.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Ammo count looks like 250 rounds should do it? Or 320?

I couldn't quite tell from the match details page and I'm trying to figure out if I have to ship ammo or if I can get it on the plane.

What's the latest?

Thanks,
ss

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

60 targets. if you hit them all first round, you will need 60 rounds.

if you miss really fast, you could use 240 rounds.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

240 is plenty i asked Joe the same question earlier this week, in fact 200 might be more than enough, from the sounds out if you are going to run out of time before ammo.

there is conflicting info on the website, it says 60 targets in one spot and 80 targets in another section right under.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

It's spooky quiet here (considering the match is a week and a half out.) Everybody must be frantically loading ammo....

Just finished the Benelli Rockcastle Shotgun Championship. Had to break down 24 shotgun stages Sunday and had to come home for work this week. Hopefully the tamps won't be near as hot as it was this past weekend. Friday was 110 with heat index of 123. Still managed to get 96 shooters through 6 stages without any casualties. Some of you already know but for those who haven't been to KY in the summer, be sure to pre-treat your clothes with permethrin. Permanon or duranon work great for the ticks and chiggers. The deet sprays help but aren't 100% effective. More later. Gotta load some ammo to shoot with the ROs.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

bmarc- I've sent an email to Joe Harris but haven't heard anything back yet. I won't be able to make this match due to a family health situation. I don't know how ya'll are handling refunds but I wanted to let folks know in case someone is waiting for a slot.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

We have some slots open if anyone wants in. All emails have been answered.

The match is going to be fast and fun. The winner will definitely earn the points on the line.

We are heading up this weekend to start set up.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Lets keep our fingers crossed this weather breaks by the end of next week.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

We finalized the stages tonight. Final round count will be posted by Sunday night after we hit the ground in Kentucky on Sunday.

Stages are set to let the shooter make decisions of what targets he wants to shoot and gain the most points. 80% of the targets are known distance and the others are fairly easy to judge the distance using field expedient methods.

Weather is suppose to be a little cooler next week with a chance of light rain, but it is the south so it will probably change.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Maximum rounds that can fired in the match is 240. If a shooter fires 240 rounds then he has missed a shit ton of targets.

If I were to shoot the match I would bring 200 rounds and plan on shooting around 150.

It is possible to fire that many rounds if you shoot very fast. There are time limits on every stage.

7 of the 8 stages are designed so that the shooter has choices on what to shoot with the time allowed. There are point factors for different targets. The smart shooter with good dope and that can manage time will do well.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

At registration. We honored all squad request that was sent it. A few of the apps that hit the last week or two may not have been honored due to the late notice.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

I'm kinda hoping that the rain turns off before we start shooting. It would be a shame for me to get wet and melt like the wicked witch.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

I can deal with the rain more so than the 100+ temps (I think we are safe on that though)

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Just got done with some equipment issues (hopefully). Leaving in about 4-5 hours. See you all out there!

Thanks Taylor but let me tell you, it's been a nightmare for day one man. Only reason I can continue tomorrow is because Clark Kennedy is an awesome guy and is loaning me a scope to replace the scope (non-USO) that went down today.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Congratulations to Shannon Kay on a great finish. Dustin Morris came in second and Wade Stuteville placed third. I have the final scores (still open for discrepancies) posted on the 8541 Tactical Facebook page. Scores will be final shortly after the awards.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

Congrats Dustin! Glad you placed well, which was expected though

Lynn, sorry to hear about your scope. A bad day at the range is still better then being at work! Wish I could have gone but David and I will be at the next Woody's match in November... I'll be sporting my rifle but with a new 21" 6.5 Creedmoor barrel

hopefully I can kick the winds ass this time instead of the other way around.

Re: Kentucky Precision Rifle Challenge/ PRS Event

I had a lot fun shooting with and against you many of you guys this weekend! Kevin Elpers had a hell of a match and busted out of the gate hard. I thought he was going to take thing after the second day and was feeling the pressure to step it. I ended up with some blessings from the “match gods” and was very fortunate.

We shot with a bunch guys that didn’t know each other and had a great time. It was very enjoyable weekend mainly because of the people. With each match I get to know everyone more and it is still remarkable how this community is full of just good folks. Kevin, Wade, Dustin and Patrick, I enjoyed our BS sessions and hope to get to on the firing line together soon.

The venue up there is awesome and I look forward to seeing how the match evolves and does in the future. I can see myself making the trip each year. Thanks to Joe the MD and all the ROs who helped. You were professional and things ran smooth. Congrats! Just fix the rain next time!

Hell no! I hated the rain as much as you did, but I actually think it gave us a little advantage.

And of course a break from the heat!

There were a couple of OBR's there and some JP rifles. The OBR's that I saw were .308's and that caliber just isn't up to how this match was setup. Very often you were "guesstimating" your range. You need a dead on dope for a .308 at long range.

I can't comment on the JP rifles because we didn't have any in our squad and the results don't show the rifle used (I wish match directors would do that). I know at least one gentleman was shooting a 6.5 Grendle and it broke it's bolt.

Another gentleman was kind enough to shoot some video of me running stage 3.
