tactical comp caliber

Hey guys im looking to build a new rifle for tactical competitions, im currently shooting a 308 and would like to build something a little better to compete with. I have a remington 700 SA 308 bolt face to build off, so with out modifying the bolt face i can think of three calibers 243, 260, and 7mm-08. out of those three which one do you guys like for that application (100 to lets say 1300 yards)I would like the flattest shooting round but still be able to have enough energy to spin the spinner. If im missing any other calibers that would fit that bolt face let me know.

i love my 6.5 creedmoor. I've taken it out to 1200 yards with no problems.

Standard 308 mags.

Any 6mm or 6.5 will serve you well. There's a reason one of the two win nearly every big match.

7mm-08

*slightly* more drop, less wind, better barrel life than 6s and 6.5s, more energy = steel shakes more and misses are easier to spot.

If I were you, I would buy THIS RIFLE. It is excellent for tactical competitions and it is for sale at a very good price.

I don't know about Any 6mm. but a 6mm. can obviously fill the bill superbly.
7-08 is just about on the wildcat list with current factory loads being what they are.
I voted 7-08 with my recent purchase. Having been shooting 223 for so many years, the 150+ gr. bullets, 162 especially have been calling my name.

My first pick would be a 260 Remington followed by the 6.5x47 Lapua over the Creedmoor for the reloading aspect being able to use Lapua brass. The 7-08 isn't a bad choice either, and my last choice would be the 243. The main thing is to get good at whatever you decide to go with and have fun shooting it.

260 or Creedmoor. I shoot a 700P .308 in competition and the 260/6.5 always finish first. The flight path is where you gain the edge. However, the impact at +700 yards gets difficult to see sometimes, depending on conditions, mirage, etc. and if the target doesn't move, your waiting for some to call "impact".......

I'm still going to a 260 though.

What do you mean by your wildcat comment?

Seems like there are very few chamberings available to those folks that need to buy long range target ammo ready-made...

I mean to say it is a factory round for hunters. For those who can find what they need when they need it.
As to the post and OP, the 7-08 is a reloaders round. Much like the 260 is and hence my not quite on the wildcat list comment.
Not a wildcat per say but wildcat rounds are on the shelves these days, mostly varmint rounds from what I am seeing.

You're going to be hard pressed to find a major tactical, i.e. PRS, type match where there's anything except a 243, 260, or 6.5CM in the top 10-15. Those three are used by 99% of the serious competitors for a reason.

I run a 6mm XC and love the cartridge. However, I hate loosing the brass at comps. My next rig will be a 260 because of this aspect. I would also agree that most popular cartridges in the 6.5mm and 6mm calibers would suit you well.
