Has anyone updated there nightforce, exebal etc software to the Lex Talus FFS software in either Nomad or Getac?

I'm considering upgrading as I have heard the FFS is what all serious long range marksmen (both Govt and private) are now using due to the increase in variable inputs.

Re: FFS Software

Is FFS running on Getac platforms now?

would be nice... since it has a windows OS, it just may.

Re: FFS Software

FFS works on Getac.... I did a setup for 3 units for a military snipers teams, more or less like the Nomad

Re: FFS Software

davide,
have you got the opportunity to use the Getac with FFS? Pros and cons vs the Nomad?

Re: FFS Software

I've used the Getac for 3 consecutive days doing same training on FFS, the software and the PDA works always without any issue, the getac has also a camera, and a mobile module, an eletronic compass with a barometric altimeter to have absolute pressure.... I did this one month ago, and at present time the military sniper unit using these 3 getac are very satisfied..no problem at all.
The Nomad it seem to be just a little be more rugged ( my impression ) the pen of the nomad is better.

Re: FFS Software

Interesting development as I think the Nomad is a bit outdated compared to where the technology has evolved. But I've been interested in making the move to FFS for some time now.

Re: FFS Software

Davide,...what is the price comparison between the trimble Nomad 900L and the GETAC??

Re: FFS Software

In similar configuration???

Cory,...the Trimble doesnt offer barometric pressure/temp readings and thats a big bonus!

I see GETAC also have an additional touch screen PDA that offers the same specs as the one Davide is working with.

Re: FFS Software

It might something if you don't already have a Kestrel, but I don't really see it as that big of a deal. It's on the compass page, and needs to be set to current physical altitude for the compass to calibrate, and the compass must be calibrated everytime you launch the app. You can reset it to zero to get station pressure, or just ignore the compass. Since most users will end up with a Kestrel anyway for wind, it's not a huge thing. If it has a temperature display, I never found it and it's not in the manual. It does however, have an inclinometer, which might be worthwhile.

The PDA lacks the keyboard, has a slower processor, no RS232 port and a smaller battery. Not a bad budget device, but not a great deal if you are asking me.

To me, it's pretty much a tossup between the Nomad, X7 and PS236, you won't be in trouble with any one of them.

Re: FFS Software

Excuse my ignorance on FFS and these platforms, but will they sync via Bluetooth to a Kestrel to get the atmospheric data without manual input?

Re: FFS Software

Yes..... and I agree with Cory... about the differences between Getac an Nomad platform, Getac is not so bad, and works without problems with FFS Delta V, but finally I prefer the Nomad..

Exactly my thoughts, If the Nomad is more rugged, and it syncs with my 4500 BT, there is no need to have a PDA that does separate variables, especially if you have to calibrate it for the compass to work every time you access the app... RS-232 is a must if you got yourself a Vector

Re: FFS Software

In the Getac PDA's I've used there was a keyboard and the RS232 port, the processor was the same of my nomad 800

I've also take a look to the processor of the nomad model 900, in the system information I've seen the same processor...so 800.

somebody owner of a model 900 could check ?

Re: FFS Software

That's the PS236 Getac, they have a simpler PDA without the keyboard, etc., about 2/3's the cost

Re: FFS Software

davide,
I like the green nomad anyway, I wouldn't be getting any kill shots on video, if I had that bright ass yellow getac layin out... LOL.
