I usually hunt with a 6.8spc, but the cost of feeding it just makes me sick, so I sought a 5.56 substitute. A Knights SR-15. These were taken with 55gn vmax projos. I guess the caliber debate will go on.....but right now, I'm happy with the little 5.56!

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

I really hate seeing pictures like this...

...because they remind how stupid Florida is for not allowing suppressors and NV when hunting public land.

I am puzzled, however, by someone who owns a $2K rifle, a $5K NV setup, and a $1K suppressor worrying about ammo cost.

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

Did you use the EOtech to aim or just have that laser sighted in and use your NV and point and shoot?

5.56 is adequate on hogs even the big ones.

Man, I have looked through the Eotech with nvgs, but since the dbal came available, it's the ONLY way to go!!

eracer....I see your point. I don't mind spending money on reliable kit, but I am tight! Lol. At 50 cents a pop, I cringe when that 6.8 brass flies into the grass and is gone forever.

It's a Shark 30 cal suppressor....little big, but works great and keeps me from having to buy a dedicated 5.56 can.

no man! thanks for the pics, it looks like a great set up, it would also double as a great arm exercise too!
    nice looking setup

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

Honestly i never though the 5.56 had the capability of doing so much cavity damage! Kinda makes me re consider some things....

Awesome set up, a friend of mine was looking at the same rifle at Shot Show a few months back but they wouldn't sell him one because he lives in NY....The search goes on!

Glad you're happy with yours, again awesome set up! And nice hunt.

    Sweet setup right there.

I like how you Texas guys roll!!!!!

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

Is that tape switch velcro'd onto your broom handle. If so go get some old bicycle tube cut 2 or inch section and slip it over the tape switch onto the broom handle. It will hold it in place a lot better and will also protect it from getting ripped up while riding in the ATV and busing brush.

Thanks! I'm using 3M double side adhesive tape, but the innertube sounds like a good fix.

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

My dad and I have killed a whole bunch of them with 52 gr speer hollow points. Is it the best bullet/caliber choice, no but it works.

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

Good to hear about the 75 gr BTHP, I have shot a few hogs with 60 gr vmax and had two that ran 100+ yds with a shot right behind the shoulder blade, head shots are drt all the time, my rifle shoots the 75 bthp's very accurate so I may give them a try. I have a Grendel ready for next hunt but it's a 24" upper and it's quite a bit heavier than my .223 so we'll see.

    Re: 5.56 on hogs!

Guys, it's good to see some kills with this caliber. Ive hunted hogs with a. 223 53gr vmax and I still get folks arguing that you can't hunt hogs with that caliber....ha...the proof is in those pics...keep up the good work fellas.
