Rifle Scopes H59 or G2 ???

I am wanting to get a Bushnell 3-21 in either a H59 or G2 reticule. I want to use it to hold over to get to 1000yards. My hold over for 1000 is 8.5 mils. I would like to see some pics of the full magnification of both scopes. I would like to be able to see low impacts (off target) when holding over at higher magnifications. If the scope is set at 20 power will I be able to do that? Will I be able to see the 9 mil marks, which would allow me to see low impacts?

I like the H59 but from what I gather I would only be able to use the power at around 15-18 to hold over at 1000. Is this correct? Are the H59 and the G2 set up the same as far as hold over mils/ field of at magnification power?

Any help will be greatly useful and appreciated.

Re: H59 or G2 ???

being that the H59 is too busy of a reticle I went with a G2, I haven't received it yet.. but by the looks of it I think this one will be just fine for my purpose.

Re: H59 or G2 ???

The G2 makes more sense to me.

It's 10 Mils plus at 15x and 8.5 Mils at 20x on the G2.

But you won't use 20x at 1000 anyway.

And you don't need 'room' in the reticle below your aiming point to see impacts.

Re: H59 or G2 ???

Any pics of the reticules while magnified? I like the h59 more. What is it about the G2 that is better?

Not the first time I've heard this..Why not use the 20x at 1000?

Re: H59 or G2 ???

Since they are both mil based and packaged in the same scope I don't see why there would be any difference in the number of holds visible at the same magnification. Ive seen several pretty good explanations of how the Horus is employed, like to see a demo on the G2 to better understand the thinking behind its design.

Re: H59 or G2 ???

Here's some pics I found by doing a search on the Snipers Hide "google" search, over on the right side bar.

My HDMR/H59 shows 8.8 mils to the bottom of the field of view at 21x. 18x shows 9.2 mils to the bottom of the FOV. So you would have to use 15x or so to see low hits.

I've hit steel at a mile at 8x mag with a FFP H70 reticle using holdovers but it's certainly not ideal of course. My point is that sometimes dialing part or all of the firing solution is in order rather than holding over.

With the HDMR I find my self dialing down to 13-15x often in a match, especially for holders when I need a larger field of view to find the targets fast due to time constraints of a particular stage. Fortunately I'm only holding over 7.3 mils to hit the 1090Y steel at the AZPRC match which is our longest shot, so I don't have to dial at all for this match.

If I'm going to be shooting a fixed distance for any length of time I'll dial for the shot and use the center floating dot. The floating dot is my other favorite thing about the H-59 but that's a personal preference of mine.

I'd imagine the DMRG2 would be the same, 21x/8.8 mils to the bottom of the FOV.

If you are not set on the HDMR/DMR another solution would be buying a scope with the H-37 reticle which is designed with much more usable elevation in the reticle for holdovers on the longer shots.

Re: H59 or G2 ???

Thanks for the link. I shoot a local comp that starts at 400 and goes out to 1000 it is all prone and no time limit. I do not need the hold overs but I want the ease of holding over and seeing low/off impacts. I could dial and then watch the impacts if time permits and then hold over in a rushed time limit if needed.

I like the G2 but wished it had a little more wind hold over. Here in south Texas its not uncommon to have sustained 20mph wind with more gusts over that. That is where I find fault with the G2.
