Just saw that 5.11 put the od version on clearance for 60.00. Anybody have any opinions on them. How accurate is the data?

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

I have heard good and bad. I have never used it but I will give it a shot for that price. Thanks.

I found it on the 5.11 site under closeouts.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

? are you sure this is the watch with ballistic calculator, if it is it's a good price. I have one of the old titaniums (wear it every day for about 6 years) and find the data pretty good (really nice if i forget drop sheets or palm batteries crap out)

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

new style with ballistic calc and it is the 100m wr version not the older 30m marked down from 239.00 hell of a deal.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Just ordered one. I have actually been looking for an inexpensive watch and was getting ready to order a GShok.
Thanks Aaron for bringing this to our attention.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

I watched a guy drive up to the firing line, enter the atmospheric data from his kestrel into his watch, and then fire one shot with his 260 to hit a 12" plate at 1000 yards

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

I have used one in the past. I would still be using it if the battery didn't die. This thread reminded me I have to get it replaced. I have to admit it was pretty handy and I often used it during away matches!

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

I been using one for over 3 years now. The data that is input makes if very accurate. Just as and more so than online JBM that is all I have used. Last time at 1000, my online dope was a off but the watch was darn near cut center on. I run mine on mils. Like most things, it takes some practice to learn.

The battery does not last long and the compass function will eat the battery fast. I did not get two years of use on mine but I really used the ballistic calculator, almost every week for a couple months then here and there. Battery replacement was $34 and took 9 days. For the last 2 months of battery life, the time ran slow and slower, hit a button one day and went blank.

Buttons are easy to push even with gloves on.

I quit setting the declination on mine and trying to nav with it. Can be done but...

I set my time on home, zulu and local.

It has a very large profile and even after 3 years I still catch the bezel on things.

I wish it showed the date and time on one screen.

The band stretches and I heard of them breaking but as much as I have caught mine on things and practically pulled it off my wrist at times, the band is still going strong over 3 years of use. Plus, it does come with a back up band, for over clothing large but...

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

$34.00 to change the battery? Why can't you change it yourself? I am asking this question since I might just buy one since they are so cheap right now

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Sealed battery for waterproof, battery replacement comes with new seal and testing, programming once the battery is back in.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

I was about to buy one until I saw it was Playdoh Rainforest Bright Green.

No wonder it's on sale, I bet they sold 3 at the regular price.

And if they closeout at $60, how much do you think it actually cost to make? Nowhere near $250.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Yeah the color turned me off. I just run shooter on my old evo 4g. I just loaded an AOSP rom on it, put airplane mode on permanently ( so it won't sit there and search for a signal ) ran ADW LAUNCHER for speed and I'm good to go. I can use it for WIFI and shooter exclusively and it works great.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

4 tiny philips head screws, a $6 battery from any radioshack, and a 10 cent o-ring from the hardware store is all you need to change the battery and "reseal" it. 5.11 made the seal with a split so when you open it it breaks.

All in all a decent watch, the ballistic data works well. The watch is a little bulky, the display can be very hard to read in certain light angles, and you have to push too many buttons to switch back and forth between date and time. Idk why they aren't both on the same screen.

My battery had lasted quite well, but once I calibrated my compass and found out how inaccurate it is I never used that again.
I like the 10 second glow feature for my EMS nonsense.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Had a 5.11 tactical watch and hated it. Sold it and bought a Casio Pathfinder and 100% satisfied. I also own a G-Shock - I don't wear it very often, but I have no complaints about that either.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Man all these bad reviews have got me wishing I would have just ordered a GShock.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

There are plenty of tactical watches out there, and as the price goes up so do the options. Breightling has an Aerospace with digital readings. Just expect a lower life expextancy with a g-shock. Whatever works.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Sounds to me as a watch it sucks, but as a small, accurate, portable ballistic program it rocks. So the next question is, what other electronic devise is out there in the same price range that does the same function?

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

The watch seems like a passable time piece with some quirky display features, a dodgy compass and seemingly good ballistic computer.

If you can get past the color, maybe the bulkiness and change the occasional battery it seems like it's worth the $60 experiment.

Figuring if the compass is dodgy, you won't use it as much, which extends the battery life. Any watch with an electronic compass eats batteries alive when you use the compass function. If you really need a watch based compass, you might be better served with the aftermarket ones that slip onto the band.

Put it this way: a FDAC is going to run you $40 anyways.

Doesn't hurt to have a little redundancy...

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

How do you input your data into the ballistic program? Do you use the buttons on the side of the watch?

Very slowly...

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

my $ 0.02 ... the watch face is plastic ans scratches easily. 2nd, my wrist bands dry-rotted and just tore apart. I always have my dope w/my rifle. I have used this watch once or twice when trying to get my exact dope and don't have it on my card. Again, I have only used it a few times. Going to make paracord bands for it.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Anyone received their watch yet?

I ordered on the 8th and haven't received a tracking number yet.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

About an hour after I posted this, I received the confirmation e-mail. It said I should get the watch tomorrow.

Little late on the confirmation e-mail, but a nice surprise to see I'll get the watch soon.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Well, I got mine and it's a lot nicer than the "Playdoh rinforest bright green". It looks more OD to me, at least mine is.

So far the ballistic calculator matches my LB3 data, which is right on.

I'm looking forward to trying this out in the field!

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Anyone who ordered one and dosen't like it want to sell it to me for $60? I guess they are all sold out, got on this one late.... :0

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

Got mine a few days ago: for a $60 experiment, it was worth it, IMHO.

Color is definitely not as offensive as the image posted above.

The watch display can be difficult to read because of the "reverse LCD".

Functions are somewhat limited as a watch: no split time in stopwatch mode?

Data input is relatively painless. Certainly not as fast as looking it up on a FDAC.

Construction feels a bit, fragile compared to a G-shock that can be had for about the same amount of money.

But as a combination of a ballistic computer that can tell time (in 3 time zones), date, stopwatch, timer and alarm, not bad for $60.

For my low speed, high drag purposes, I won't be using the compass or illumination that much, so the battery life should be on the longer end of normal.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

I just got mine today .
If you guys wonder, it is not that ugly play-doh green color.
To me it looks more like a greenish gray color.
It is a little bit on the large size but I guess it depends on your bone structure.
Now, for $60 you have a decent ballistic calculator that is water proof, a better shock protection than my IPod and you have it on you 24/7.
On thing that remains to be determined, is how good the watch operates in cold environment. It's getting pretty cold up here in the winter.
One more thing ..a big thank you to Aaron for letting us know about the sale.

Ehh..A Breitling isn't a "tacticool" watch though; it’s portrayed as a pilots watch and will run you many thousands, with no ballistic features either. You can easily get a half dozen 5.11’s for a single Breitling. Battery replacement alone for a Breitling is $125....FYI;)

Re: 5.11 Field Watch

As I should clarify.... I like back packs, tactical bags and what not... I also like watches, no negative, weird ideas now..
