• (30% goes to the CVRPC range for usage)

Junior shooters (15 and under) will compete for trophies with awards presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Junior shooters are still eligible for cash payout and match win.
We will also have a random draw, two-man team event for those who wish to participate for $5.00 (90% payback with 10% going to CVRPC).

A “bonus” type side match shooting steel targets at various ranges from 112 to 240 yards may be offered at the Match Director’s discretion, and time permitting. (90% payback with 10% going to CVRPC)

COURSE:
All shooting will be from a paved, covered firing line with multiple positions available. Course will consist of 4 stages at distances as follows:
• Stage 1: 57 yards.
• Stage 2: 112 yards.
• Stage 3: 163 yards.
• Stage 4: 210 yards.
• Targets are IPSC “style” AR235 steel in sizes ranging from approx. 1.5” to approx. 8.5” in height.
• All targets (including sighter targets) are reactive steel with no paper targets being offered.
• A sighter target will be available at each Stage. Sighter targets are steel, round discs, white in color.
• The course of fire will consist of various size targets and will also include “hostage” style scenarios, partially blocked or hidden targets, diminishing size precision reactive targets, and other possible scenarios at the Match Directors discretion.
• Targets will be engaged from the following positions:
Modified Prone: Prone position at 90* from target. Fired from shooting mat.
Prone: Prone position from shooting mat.
Defilade: Simulated defilade fired from tabletop with limited field of view.
Barricade /cover: Simulated rooftop type cover position.

NOTE: No rear rest, bag, appendages, or mechanical support of any kind allowed on any position. Additionally, bipods must be adjusted so the stock does not contact the ground when firing from prone positions or the tabletop from the defilade position. The shooter may place their hand, wrist, fist, etc. between the stock and ground. If a competitor is found in violation, the competitor will be issued a warning with the shooter’s score for that stage entered as zero “0”, and in the event of a second offense the competitor will be disqualified.

• Course of fire will consist of 48 rounds, 8 of which are sighters.
You will encounter 12 targets total at each stage consisting of the following: Six, free-standing targets worth 1 point each; 4 aggressor/hostage style targets worth 2 points each - but with a minus one point (-1 ) hostage kill penalty; and two very challenging "option" targets worth 3 points each - but also with a -1 point hostage kill penalty. So that’s 12 available targets with varying difficulty, and with varying risk vs. reward. 10 shots, 12 targets, you decide.
Please note that ANY of the four positions described above may be encountered on ANY of the four Stages. Shooting positions will either be drawn on the morning of match day, or prescribed at the Match Director’s discretion dependant on conditions.

NOTE: Course and targets may vary slightly at match director's discretion.

EQUIPMENT:
• Match is open to all .22 rimfire rifles including bolt action, semi auto, single shot, lever, and pump actions. No weight limit.
• .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle only. No 22 WMR, 17M2, or 17HMR rifles allowed.
• No “adjustable” muzzle devices or “tuners” are allowed.
• Non-adjustable muzzle brakes and “bloop tubes” not exceeding an overall length of 3” are permitted.
• The use of suppressors is permitted.
• No mechanical front rests – bipod only. NOTE: Only “tactical” style bipods allowed. No F-Class or “wide footprint” models allowed.
• No rear bags, monopods, or rear rest of any kind allowed.
• No rear stock appendages, protrusions, or otherwise fixed, adjustable, or folding devices that would serve as support.
• The use of a sling is permitted.
• Shooting mats, elbow pads, etc. are allowed.
• No “High Power type” shooting coats or jackets allowed.
• The same gun MUST be fired throughout the course unless a verified mechanical or optical failure occurs which must be approved by the Match Director.

MATCH COMMANDS:
• At the command: “Shooters to the Line…Your 30 second prep period begins, NOW” competitors will have a 30 second prep period to get into position, adjust scope settings, etc. The firearm must remain unloaded during the prep period.
• At the end of the prep period the competitor will receive a “Load” command at which time he/she will have 30 seconds to load his weapon.
• At this “Load” command, shooters with magazine fed rifles will load a magazine with 2 (two) rounds only. Shooters may also choose to engage sighter targets single fed.
• At the end of the 30 second “Load” period, the shooter will receive the “Fire” command and have 30 seconds to fire on 2 sighter targets only.
• The sighter targets must be engaged first.
• At the end of 30 seconds a “Cease Fire” command will be given. Bolts/actions are to be open at this time.
• After the two rounds are fired on the sighter target and the “Cease Fire” command given, a magazine change is required. The competitor may then load a magazine loaded with 5 or 10 rounds. The time period for the magazine change is 15 seconds.
• Tubular magazine fed rifles must load two rounds only, or engage sighter targets single fed; then load 10 rounds at Magazine Change command.
• At the end of the 15 second magazine change period the “Fire” command will be given at which time the competitor will fire 10 rounds for score during a 4 minute period.

NOTE: If a competitor does not fire the allocated two rounds on the sighter target for any reason, the competitor still has a maximum of ten shots for score. If a competitor fires more than 10 rounds for score, the score for that stage shall be zero “0”. If a second offense occurs the competitor will be disqualified.

• The competitor may choose to engage any target on the stage in any order. Competitor review of the scoring below and various strategies dependant on the presented targets at each stage are advised.
• If a competitor fires at a target for score prior to receiving the FIRE command, it shall be called as an “early shot” and any point scored shall be marked as a zero “0”.
• At the end of the 4 minute period a “Cease Fire” command will be given at which time the competitor must display a clear and open action, insert an “open chamber indicator” or flag, and acknowledge clear by a show of hands.
• Shooters must hold their position while target setters are downrange with no handling of the firearm permitted. Upon the command at the return of target setters shooters may advance to their next position, place their firearm at their designated shooting position, without further handling or adjustment.

NOTE: To help ensure the target setter’s safety and aid in enforcement of this rule, any competitor called for handling their firearm while persons are downrange will: 1st offense: Be issued a warning with 10 points deducted from their overall score; and 2nd offense: Be disqualified and the competitor asked to remove their equipment from the line. No exceptions. Safety will NOT be compromised.

SCORING:
• Targets MUST fall to be scored as a HIT.
• Turned targets still standing will be counted as a miss or “0”.
• Each missed target will be scored as “0” point.
• Each “single man” or "free-standing" man hit will be scored as 1 point.
• Hostage target hit (knocked over) will be scored as minus 1 (-1) point.
• Hostage target aggressor “kills” will be scored as 2 points.
• “Option” target aggressor kills will be scored as 3 points.
• “Option” target hostage kills are scored as minus 1 (-1) point.
• If the Aggressor target AND the Hostage target falls it is scored as minus 1 (-1).
• If a Hostage target is turned and does not fall it does not count against the competitor.
• All competitors must have their scorecard verified and initialed before advancing to the next position. Blank or mismarked targets will be scored as “0”. Line Officers will be available for assistance in scoring or match procedures.
• Competitors will turn in their scorecard to the Match Director or Line Officer at the completion of Relay #4.
• All scorecards must be completed with the competitor’s name and contact information prior to turning it in for scoring. Scorecards with no name or identifying information will be rejected.
• In the event of a “tie” for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, a “Tiebreaker Stage” will be added and will be at the Match Directors discretion. Expect targets from 57 to 210 yards.

ALIBI SHOTS:
• No alibi shots will be given for failure to fire due to equipment or ammunition malfunction.
• No alibi shots will be given for failure to fire during the allotted time.
• Alibi shots will be permitted only when the respective targets are unavailable due to crossfire or mechanical target failure in the competitor’s bank and the competitor has not fired all 10 allowed shots.
• The competitor must notify a Range Officer or the Match Director immediately if he/she has missing targets due to crossfire or mechanical target failure.
• It is the sole responsibility of the competitor to notify the Range Officer of the alibi situation.
• It is the sole responsibility of the competitor to decide to engage further targets or suspend fire and engage the targets in an alibi period.
• At the Match Director’s command, the alibi shooter will engage targets with the standard range commands and the competitor shall be given 24 seconds per alibi shot.

SAFETY:
• CVRPC requires the use of open chamber indicators/flags at all times except after the load command has been given.
• ALL bolts and actions must remain open at all times except when “on stage” after the Load command is given.
• Failure to display open actions and Open Chamber Indicator will result in 1 warning, followed by disqualification.
• Eye and hearing protection must be worn by competitors, spotters, and bystanders.
• No horseplay or unsafe gun handling will be tolerated.

Looking foward to March!

Thanks for posting

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Hey Barry! Hope you're weathering the winter well. We're really looking forward to March too. Time to get this thing started!!

Stage 1 will have a new look and we think it will be well received by the shooters. Basically we will begin the year with Stage 1 sporting the same single man - hostage - and bonus scenario as the longer stages but on a, shall we say, a precision scale. The targets will be small and difficult - but remember they will (in March) be fired from a modified or 90* prone. Shooting prone at 57 yds with quality .22's = small targets. There will be a "box" or outline for your body and gun to stay inbounds. So make sure you have your 57 yard zero spot on.

In the rules and procedures posted above we wanted to list and clarify items that have raised questions in the past on equipment, match commands and procedures, and issues such as alibi shots. I hope we have covered everything but if anyone has a question please don't hesitate to ask.

As we shoot for cash we also wanted to add a little "teeth" to a couple of things like firing too many rounds, improper positions, and safety infractions. Actions that could affect scoring or safety will be addressed. This was added to make the match better - and safer - for all. Our main goal is to continue with a challenging, fun, and safe match with a level playing field, while maintaining the highest degree of match integrity.

Will you clarify a bit what you mean by no "appendages".

We're psyched to get back to Conover. Thanks for the work you put into the shoots.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Hi Jon! Looking forward to seeing you and the boys, or young men I should say, again in March.

Think monopods (fixed or adjustable), Anschutz biathalon or "Precise" style butt hooks (fixed or adjustable) that sweep way down and would offer artificial support, etc. or other type of device or attachment to the stock that would allow the rear of the gun to be supported by the ground. In other words, no part of the gun's butt stock can touch the ground and provide support. The shooter must support the rear of the gun. Resting the stock on your arm, hand, fist, etc. is fine, and expected if you plan on shooting well. SR

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Steve, been missing you all.

Is my Sinclair "Tactical" bipod allowed? They call it "tactical" but you may deem it a "wide foot print." ?

It has a wider stance than a harris, but it's not a super wide F class 'pod.

Your call, I'm just checking I just don't want to show up with disapproved gear!

Thanks! good stuff.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Everything looks great for a new year in the tsc world thanks again steve and joe for putting this match togather. Cant wait to start up.
And Joe... Brandon said he cant wait to test the kia out!

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

IF, and you will notice that is a big if, I drive the hamster car to the range; Brandon must maintain a 20ft hands off perimeter.........if he makes me pull, I will have to put him down
laugh.gif

You reckon that poor boy will ever live that down? Just remember Brandon, them other boys is the ones givin you a hard way to go not me.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Hey Tres! Hope you've weathered the winter well.

I just checked out the Sinclair bipods on their website...... If it is their "tactical Bipod" part # 04-8500 its cool.

If it is...or looks like....or is a variant of part #749-013-031 best to leave it at home.

The ultimate goal is to keep the shooter a large part of the equation and the equipment within reason. We do not want this to become a .22 benchrest or mini F class match.

SR

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Yes Jon, you must leave your appendages at home. It is soooo scary when you bring them out.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

The grapevine has learned of yet another Anschutz purchase in the last 2 days. This season is shaping up to be an epic battle!

You won't be able to stand it! Bring your camera and your rifle, you will be glad you did!!

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Sure. People recon all the time. You will be sorry you didn't bring your rifle though. Go ahead and bring your rifle. If you are lucky and time allows you can get dope after the match for next months match.

Edit: Hey it's 10 bucks. You don't have to win for this to be really cheap practice.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

T minus 5 weeks and 4 days until the 2012 season starts. Just a little bit of anticipation!

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Hey Steve and Joe, hard to believe it's only 5 weeks out. Hoping to get out to as many matches as possible this year, my work keeps me very busy in the Springtime, a lot of mandatory OT. The new COF sounds challenging, better get to practicing and confirming my dope. Looking forward to it.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

hope I can make the match in march, last year was great, and this year should even be better. Chad C.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Heads up!! One week from today we will start the 2012 TSC season! We're working on getting the range and targets ready. Hope to see you there. SR

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

We finally got a left handed rifle for Hunter! We're psyched for another good year. Thanks for all the behind the scenes stuff you do to make the matches happen. See you Saturday.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Great news about Hunter's new rifle! We are very pleased that we have strong junior participation. We will be doing something different this year for the juniors awards and we will have more on that on match day.
Thanks for the back pat there Jon. We will be working 2 days this week cleaning up the range and preparing. We moved the old travel trailer down from the 300yd line, to the TSC firing line. It should make a nice stat house and office as well as continue to store the targets. At least now they will be closer at hand.
Look forward to Saturday!!

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Good to hear that old trailer has been moved....thats always been an "in the way item" that clogged up the 300 yard line. Nice.

What time do you guys usually get done with a match that starts at 10am? If I dont go to Butner this weekend, and have our gear together for the 600 yard weekend after this one, I may bring Trey up and turn him loose on you guys. And yeah, I will bring my rifle too...I aint showing up just to watch! But, I do gotta have a lot of planets align to get there this weekend, but I think Kirk and a newbie are going, so all the more reason to show up and play.

John

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Hi John.

Well, it depends on the number of entrys but the match is usually wrapped up around 2-3pm. If sufficient interest, we will usually have an "after the match" "side match" as well.

Come on out and play, bring some juniors, and 'yer gun.

SR

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

Sadly, I'm going to miss the season opener. Hopefully I'll be able to make it the April and subsequent matches.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 Season Events and Rules

We had a really great match today! I missed a lot of familiar faces but we still had 31 shooters. To the guys that weren't there, you were missed and mentioned.

I will just be brief so not to step on Steve's match report proper.
There was a large junior contingent today and I would like to thank the parents who drove some long distances to bring them out to shoot. Here is what one of our founding fathers had to say about youngsters and guns:
"As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives [only] moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion to your walks."

-- Thomas Jefferson, writing to his teenaged nephew

There was however plenty of "execise to the body" for those who helped set targets today, and we are grateful to those who pitched in to help. Thanks to all the regulars who helped set up and take down, this match requires a lot of work and we couldn't do it without your support.

Many had some cobwebs to shake out today, yours truly included. I am expecting to see some really high scores this year, judging by the first match. Lots of folks were less than thrilled with their scores but I will again offer the encouragement I doled out to a few today. It's the first match of the year and we were all itching to get our feet wet again, if you didn't shoot as good as you liked don't worry, it gets better from here. Wanting something too badly is just as bad as not wanting it badly enough. As nerves settle and everyone gets focused I expect the top ten to get pretty tight this year, at least that is our prediction.
I really enjoy helping Steve run the match and seeing everyone have a good time. Looking forward to April!
Joe

CVRPC .22 TSC Match Recap, March 10, 2012

The 2012 CVRPC .22 Tactical Steel Challenge season started out with a great match with a total of 31 competitors braving the chilly morning temperatures. The skies were blue with temps in the mid to upper 40’s most of the day with light to no wind. Pretty doggone good for March. Although quite intimidating at first sight, the shooters seemed to quickly adjust to the new Stage 1 format. Those targets are tiny!......but very doable as several shooters proved.

Jim Roe guided his 1903 Anschutz to a very nice score of 58 to take the top honor this month. Jim has been shooting in the 50’s and I knew a “W” was coming sooner rather than later. Nice shootin’ bro’ and congrats. Tom McRary is proving to be a threat to win every match and fired a very nice 56. I must add that Tom cleaned the new Stage 1 with a perfect 18 points and was the only shooter to do so today. Excellent shooting Mr. McRary! For 3rd place Bryan Johnson and Steve Roe both posted 54’s and a shootoff settled the matter 7 to 6.

When time allows, we will run the “Gauntlet” side match after the main match. This consists of 10 total shots fired at a single target at Stage 2, Stage 3, and Stage 4 then advancing to Stage 5 at 240 yards. A hit must occur to advance to the next stage. Joe Lassiter and Junior shooter Jay Roe had an epic battle this month with a 9 to 9 tie after the first 10 shots. After the next 10, Joe posted an impressive 10x10 to Jay’s equally impressive 9x10 for the win. Watching these guys print tennis ball sized groups on a post card sized target at 240 yards is a blast. Remember this is done in tactical positions with no rear rest – not off a bench. Great shooting to you both and congrats on the hard earned win Joe!

I want to add that we had several Junior shooters in the match today and the talent level of these young shooters keeps advancing. We strongly encourage our Junior shooters at CVRPC, and we urge parents to get their youngsters involved in the shooting sports. To this end, we will be stepping up our Junior trophy program this year. We have set up a “Top Shooter” program for the Juniors and will reward the top three Juniors in October with very nice trophies for the highest aggregate score from their best 4 of 8 matches. We have set up a Junior donation box to help fund this program. Thanks to all those that help make this happen. Special thanks to Jeremy Abbott at Abbott Plumbing for helping kick off this program.

The match ran extremely smooth with no lengthy delays, infractions, or safety concerns. Thank you shooters for making this MD’s job easier. Special thanks to Joe, Ronny, Curtis, Bryan, Brandon and several others for making this thing happen. Thanks to those shooters who helped with the mechanics of the match throughout the day. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve Roe

CVRPC .22 TSC Match Recap, April 14, 2012

The April match is in the books. We had sunny skies, moderate temps in the 60’s and 70’s, with 26 competitors facing the tiny targets in challenging winds. The 5-15mph winds really wreak havoc with the .22’s at these distances and make wind calls, adjustments, and shot timing and placement paramount. The winds remained pretty consistent throughout the day and were indeed a challenge for all. This match was our first “draw” match for position and created a new twist to the match format that was well received by the shooters. D. Roe won the Junior class and also placed an impressive 5th overall. Junior shooter J. Roe took us all to school on the Gauntlet side match with a very impressive 9x10. Match results are posted below. Thanks to all who helped with set-up and tear down, and those who helped to keep the match running smoothly.

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 *March Results & Pics Up*

Is there still a bonus/bounty for the first person that cleans the course?
grin.gif

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 *March Results & Pics Up*

Yes. The bounty is still there for the first perfect score. We have had several shooters "clean" a given stage - in fact all 4 stages have been shot clean multiple times. But no one has yet put them all together for a perfect day. It can be done. SR

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 **APRIL RESULTS UP**

May results posted. With Mother's Day weekend, family visitation, and a long workday today I am running a little short on time for the write up. I'll try to add a few more details in a day or so. We had some very impressive scores this month, a Anschutz smasher Cooper in the winner's circle, a perfect 10x10 in the Gauntlet, and a Jr. shooter closing in on a "fifty". Congrats to the winners. As usual, thanks to all those who help run the match, set up, and tear down afterward.....you guys are what makes this match happen. SR

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 **MAY RESULTS UP**

A round of applause for our match director, he does a great job every month with this match. With an assistant like myself he might as well call me Igor

Todd Holt has really been tuning up that Cooper, and he tuned us all up again this month drawing blood for the second time in a row, with another winners circle finish! He also tied the score record of 59 for the 1st place win. Great shooting Todd! Curtis England had a good day taking second place with a 55 and 9 points in a shootoff with Bryan Johnson, who took 3rd place with a 55 plus 4 points. These guys make it tough on their friends in deciding who to pull for, when they shoot in the shootoffs! A great performance from both. Jay Roe really stepped up his game this month with a personal best of 49 and the 1st place junior slot. He was followed closely by Dillon Roe for 2nd and Elijah winters took 3rd. We are proud of all our junior shooters!

As luck of the draw would have it, Curtis and Jay were paired in the team match and put up an impressive 104 to win this popular side match. Jim Roe won the Gauntlet with a perfect "10", not an easy task and some very good shooting. We have changed the format a bit for the Gauntlet and it now consists of dialing to 210y, 112y, 163y and finally to 240y. Makes it all a bit tricky.

We would like to thank all who make this match a success each month, setting up and tearing down. Thanks to all who set targets during the match, we appreciate your efforts. Thanks to those who bought hot dogs, as we raised over $65 for the juniors program!

We need more help with line officers next month, so be prepared to wear a vest and get involved.

Thanks,
Joe Lassiter

Dude I can't do hat every month. Besides I am on a diet. Lost about 15 pounds in 2 weeks. Strict diet of sardines and pistachios.

Great to hear you are coming up Brian. Look forward to meeting you!

Re: Conover, NC .22 TSC 2012 **MAY RESULTS UP**

I'm unfortunately going to be a no show this month due to other obligations.

I hope to make it back soon as I've just gone over to the Dark side (CZ to Anschutz) and am anxious to try it out in competition.

Match Results June 9, 2012

The sound barrier has been broken! Our June match is in the books and the 25 competitors and others present witnessed two shooters set a new course record. The weather was great with temps in the mid 80’s and little to no wind. Jim Roe fired a new course record of 60x72 with his Anschutz 1903 Jr. and set the bar early. Todd Holt, who won last month with a smokin’ score of 59, stepped it up even further and proved that his Cooper is not afraid to mix it up with the Anschutz’s and posted a 60x72 as well. These guys are the first to break into the 60's. This set up an incredible shoot-off for the win with Todd jumping out front early. It came down to the last round fired as Jim edged Mr. Holt by a single point. These two are great guys and great shooters as well.

The match ran smooth and without a hitch thanks to all those who helped run the line and set targets. It’s takes a team effort to put this thing together each month and we couldn’t do it without you.
