Has anyone actually used the Integrated Ballistic Computer with/without the included angle measurement? How well did it work with your rifle's dope?

Re: Leica 1600 LRF: actual use?

6.5x47,

I have a 6 Dasher that I hunt coyotes with quite a bit. The ballistics for my setup are right on the money out to the max range of 540 which is limited by the range finder. Any farther and I have time to dope the shot. Once you choose the correct ballistic curve it is actually pretty good in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Re: Leica 1600 LRF: actual use?

I have the current 1600 model and up until yesterday had not actually put the ABC (Advanced Ballistic Compensation) system to use. I was curious if someone had been using it. I posted the same ? over on Snipershide.com and 24hrcampfire.com and finally got a response. It was favorable.

Leica 1600 LRF: actual use? - Sniper's Hide Forums

So, yesterday am, I set up some steel to ring out a load in my 6.5x47 that I hope to both compete with in a 24hr Sniper Challenge and hunt with. The 130 Berger VLD running 2970 fps. Accuracy is running just sub MOA. Using a 6" round steel plate, I first set it up at 394 yds. I like the Evil Roy by Action Target for it's portability, ease of set up and ability to change out plate size.

I used both the Leica 1600's features and a Kestrel 2500 for weather data. I also was comparing drops with the Shooter program on my DROID smart phone and EXBAL on an older Palm M105.

First comparing weather.

Kestrel gave 23.90 barometric station pressure in in/HG.
Leica 1600 gave 11.8 psia

You can compare the two here. It was a favorable comparison. The two readouts also were within 200' of my gps elevation.

Air Pressure and Altitude above Sea Level

Both units are temperature sensitive to radient heat (sunlight and body heat) and will have higher ambient temp readouts if left in the sun or held in the hand too long; especially the Kestrel. Temps were comparable in the mid 50's.

It was nice of the Leica 1600 to give me 5 deg down angle. I used it's angle readout to input into both the Shooter and Exbal programs.

Drops

Exbal gave 5.25 MOA = hit
Shooter gave 5.2 MOA = hit
Leica 1600 have 4.7 MOA = miss

I added one 1/4 MOA click up and hit the plate after the miss with the Leica 1600. For varmiting, it might behoove to add the click for hits but for general big game hunting, IMO, it would work quite well.

I then moved the steel out to 450 yds, which was as far as I could before the terrain would not allow me to see the target.

Again, weather readouts were similar.

Exbal gave 6.5 MOA for two hits
Leica gave 6 MOA for two misses but as soon as I added .5 MOA I was hitting again.

It seemed that with "my" rifles dope, the further out I went, the more extra clicks were needed to hit.

I plan on selling my Leica 1600 when my 1600-B arrives. I have it on order and will try and test it before the competition at the end of July. Knowing I need to ad a skootch to my drops does not matter to me. The time saved by not having to break out both the Kestrel 2500 weather station and either ballistic program could make a fast evolving shot happen.

Any one want to buy a "LIGHTLY" used Leica 1600?

I have one and just use my iPhone. Shooter, ballistic: field tactical edition seem to work the best. Just use the angle and yardage

Was this a serious question? I'm in the market for one.

I will sell my 1600 as soon as I have the 1600-B in hand.
