New SR-25 ER or EC

So I'm selling one of my bolt guns to get a "precision" gas gun. I've decided on the SR-25 EC but I'd be willing to entertain arguments for the SR-25 ER. MV with BH 175 is still in the 2550s with the EC, so the 16" barrel shoul be more than enough for what I need: I don't want this discussion to center around 16 vs 20" barrels. I want users to tell me which model they find to be more accurate since they use different barrel materials and manufacturing processes.

Do not waste my time with the following statements:
1. Any statement regarding an OBR. I will never purchase a product from larue.
2. Any statement regarding an MWS.
3. Any statement about a GAP-10. I like GAP, but not for this.
4. Any statement about POF, Armalite, DPMS, or any manufacturer other than KAC

Sorry if you find the above caveat rude, but when researching the SR-25, I find most threads involving the SR-25 end up with fanboyism about different platforms

Thanks in advance for any relevant posts

Given your parameters the only relevant response would be directly from KAC since they are the only ones with ALL of the rifles to pick from . That way you are ASSURED that you have the most accurate one.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

I was hoping some people could talk about their groups inside 300 y or what type of vertical dispersion they're getting at extended ranges. I know both guns are sub-moa, but I was trying to get a feel for overall accuracy at all ranges.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

I believe you're spraking about the ECC. It does have all those things, but it's also chrome lined. As a precision rifle shooter I have a slight aversion to chrome lined things. Too much bling I guess

Aren't all KAC offerings chrome lined?

Think the comment went to a barrel....but what do I know.....

Afternoon chiller,
Stone said put a krieger on any makers gun... implying a frankengun I believe. It's frustrating to get comments like that when I said from the get go that this was a KAC discussion.

You have any trigger time with the above mentioned rifles?

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Ive shot the and owned 2 EMCs, the first shot good, but I couldn't justify the cost of the 308 gasser at that point in life. I have another and it hammers, I ran it out to 525 yesterday with a 3-12 I have at the house and it was running right under MOA ( i have not shot a gas gun in a while other than AR15s, and they weren't for accuracy).

I have not shot the EC nor the ER, but I have shot the EMR and personally I do not believe that the extra weight and barrel length really gains you anything.

The Army Marksmanship Unit has been setting reccords with their "Franken-gun" AR10's for the last two years. If the Knights rifle was such hot shit, they would be using them in the 1000 yard matches at Camp Perry...but here is the big news...they are not.

Aside from being accurate, what are the selling points of the Knight rifles?

There is quite a bit different in a rifle built for AMU shooters in competition and a battle rifle....just sayin

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Deadly hit the nail on the head with parts guns. KAC guns after the EMR problems were solved are accurate, reliable, durable, soft shooting, they dont need many accessories to be complete systems, and KAC takes care of their LEO customers from what I hear.

Any other questions?

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

I'm not sure if you'll find this helpful, since I'm not sure if you want our help given your attitude. Not many people here have KAC rifles to tell you about. Your best bet would be to go to www.ar15.com, to the Industry section, find the Knight's Armament forum, and speak to them there directly, or pick up your phone and do it that way.

Otherwise, if you're looking for a precision piece, it makes me picture you as the type who is a slow and patient shooter who goes about precision in a very... precise, manner I guess. My input, go with the ER/20" barrel. The EC, being a carbine, although I'm sure capable of precision out to a distance (16" LWRC REPRs and LMT MWS 308s have been used from 800 out past 1000 yards with success,) I tend to look at a 16"/carbine variant as a battle rifle/go fast gun first, and a DMR second.

The phrase "Precision Rifle" summons the number 20 in my mind every time I hear it, in regards to barrel length.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Snake,

Thanks for the advice. You're right. I am very deliberate in my precision shooting. I shoot 3 gun and the like, but my first love has always been precision rifle. I have shot against some folks recently in practical/tactical sniper scenarios, and for 1-2 moa sized steel (or torso sized anyway) the gas guns offer many advantages. I spoke with Kevin boland briefly by email and he refered me to Casey Seng. While they are both very helpful and honest from what I've seen, I was looking for input from a variety of end users with different levels of experience an ability. I think having a larger test sample gives you a better feel for a weapon's ability in different environments and scenarios

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Well, that's the other good part about the KAC forum over at arfcom. If it's not KAC employees posting, it's KAC end users that have the experience and input you seek. Check em out.

You're welcome by the way, just trying to help however I could.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

A few question for the gen pop. Will GAP still build a rifle to order even though they have the GAP 10? Given my choice this is the way Id go(and did). I LOVE my EMC. Its a great rifle! But the way I see this rifle is as my "multi role" rifle able to do many things well. But when I think about a precision semi, I want it built exactly how I want it built down to which barrel mfg which means a custom builder.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Matu, just a couple of things: spoke with Casey re the EMR/EMC, his thoughts were that pretty much the EMC could keep up with the EMR out to 500 yds. I've never shot an EMR, can't say. My EMC has a 6X scope with a fairly coarse reticle, shoots 1" with both 168's and 177's. White box Winchester 147gr is like 1.5-1.75, haven't shot too much of it out of this rifle at paper, never used any Privi, but have used more than 500 rounds of German ball, ran fine.

The other thing is that the EMC is set up and ready to go with a suppressor, are you thinking about one for yourself?

0-600, the EMC is a great choice. If you want a bench/target rifle, I prob. wouldn't go EMR, I'd look elsewhere.

Good Luck.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

I own a LWM - the ER, EMR predecessor w/ 20" barrel and an EMC. I've shot both newer guns, the ER and the EC and I would suggest you get the EC -16" gun. In my opinion, you get more versatility with the EC, threaded barrel, collapsible stock, lighter weight with the same accuracy. I recently took Magpul's SPR class and Precision Rifle class and shot both with my EMC. The only thing I did was change the scope between the classes. The EMC did great out to 1000 yards. Furthermore, the EC is more accurate than the EMC due to the barrel not being chrome lined. The velocity loss between the two is minor and with the EC you can set it up with LR glass for precision or a 1-x for battle rifle.

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Pretty much any 16" 308 AR out there will be 100% on 2MOA steel out to 600 or so with good shooter and ammunition.

Personally I've owned a few 308 semis and it came down to a DPMS SASS and 16" that I built myself. I kept the 16". So, that would be my recommendation.

Since, you know, I can't recommend anything other than a 16" or 20" KAC to you...

Any other questions?</div></div> i hope its not like HK cats who have crap doesn't stink nor the company as well ! too many times some people/companys get the ''misfire'' thingy ..this is will be a show to watch .....

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I think I'll go with the 16" EC which I was leaning towards in the beginning. I really like the versatility of the 16" as mentioned and I'll be running an RMR at 45 degrees to keep it useful for close range.

As for the last post, I'll fly to Florida to bitch at em if it doesn't work. And then get a new gun! I doubt it will happen

Re: New SR-25 ER or EC

Eh.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if I post it, it'll end up with 4 or 5 actual constructive posts, and about 5 pages of 'you paid to much/shoulda got a GAP/LMT/OBR/DPMS/POF/REPR/Flavorofthemonth/OMGWTFBBQ/whatever' spam.

Plus I'd have to go back through and change all my picture links to work on this board. Might do it later, we'll see. For now, if you want a link PM me.
