I am looking for a new chassis for my Remington 700 SA assembly w/ m24 profile barrel. I am interested in mainly tube style chassis and mostly alloy types. My budget is around $1000 and I could go up to a max of $1200 if something warranted it. I would aprreciate feedback from owners of the actual chassis. I am not opposed to the new AI AX series either. I would also like to know if the weapon was originally in a traditional stock and if you noticed an improvement in accuracy or negative effects. Thanks in advance for your input and pictures are most certainly welcome!

I've had a tube gun stock and currently am shooting an Elisio Chassis. They are all going to provide an AR style grip and will give you that feel. I don't believe one is more "accurate" than the other but the differences lie in the build quality and other features. Have you checked out all the options?

While I cannot review because I have not received it yet, I can tell you the XLR chassis is a 7-10 week wait. Under budget too

I am interested in the Eliseo chassis, however I can't find anyone that sells them or a price range.

* I guess I should be more clear on my original description. I am really just looking to have something with a tubular fore end that will accept rails, as well as take an AR style butt stock. This also need to be a repeater style and have a DBM.

You order directly from them: http://www.gotxring.com/

When I got mine there was a 3 month wait and they're anywhere from $950-1050 depending on what options you get.

I love my RTS chassis, it's a great platform to get behind, very natural from pretty much any shooting position. The thing I like the best about it is the radial recoil lug, makes the recoil a lot different than a bedded rifle that has a lug that only goes down into the stock.

Radial recoil lug vs. standard lug? Tell me more

Just for knowledge sake.

It's pretty much a giant washer. Because the chassis is a tube, instead of having an inch thick recoil lug that you bed into the stock, it has an oversized washer which gives you 360 degree support around the whole of the action and barrel. It means there's a lot more surface area for the recoil to dissipate through and it's even across the whole thing. I shot my friend's Ed Brown M40 side by side with my .308 in the RTS and you could tell the difference in how they recoiled, it was much more "even" in the RTS.

My gunsmith who has been building precision rifles for the last 60 years had never seen anything like it but he loved the concept and how it worked.

I don't think there is any quantifiable difference in how well rifles with different lugs will shoot, but the feel to me was much easier to work with and allowed me to stay on target better.

Re: Suggestions for a tube style Remington chassis....

Elesio is my next buld, have action, trigger (donor rifle) in hand and barrel on way. They are damn impressive in ability to be adjusted to fit.

I prefer a Tubb 2000 or Spec tac lr, but they are hot sticks!

Re: Suggestions for a tube style Remington chassis....

Gary Eliseo makes great stuff. It takes just about as long as it does to get a barrel sometimes. Be prepared; you cannot just pull the barreled (Remington) action out of your stock and plug it into his stock. It will require gunsmithing.
I bought his RTS for a 223 F-TR build and went from master to Highmaster for midrange in 4 matches. I'm building an open gun on his B1 right now and am looking forward to highmaster in longrange.
I just got his new bipod in last week and am looking forward to shaking it down. Very well made just like his stocks.
Gary is a great guy to deal with and he's on the site.

Re: Suggestions for a tube style Remington chassis....

Please elaborate on what gunsmithing is required? I am thinking of purchasing Gary's bipod as well when I purchase a chassis from him. I may go with the hunter and put a Magpul PRS on it though, however I know that the tactical will be far more adjustable to me.

I waited from Sunday to Thursday of this week after picking up a like-new used XLR Evolution Tactical 14" from the SnipersHide PX. The fit and finish are superb. Just solid as a rock but very sleek at the same time. While I don't have first hand experience with other chassis, I can say this one doesn't leave anything to be desired. Installation was as simple as you could wish for. In less than 5 minutes and 8 bolts later, you're done. Couldn't be more simple.

I haven't been able to shoot it, but the feel over my original LTR stock is night and day. The LTR was very light, difficult to get a comfortable cheek weld and non adjustable LOP. The XLR would be hard pressed to find a body type or scope height that it couldn't accommodate. It puts the bipod further away from my body and adds just enough weight which I'm sure will assist with recoil management.

Re: Suggestions for a tube style Remington chassis....

Can't use standard recoil lug. Have to use his. Somebody above talked about it.

Re: Suggestions for a tube style Remington chassis....

I am VERY fond of my XLR chassis, but strictly speaking, does not fit the definition of a 'tube gun' (though neither does the AI AX that the OP refers too, so may be exactly what he's looking for).

Re: Suggestions for a tube style Remington chassis....

Eliseo
Gary is a pleasure to deal with, stock fully encloses action vs just sitting on it
Mine should be complete in next couple of weeks, if i had to do it again i would buy another Eliseo ... built like a tank, great workmanship
buy an Eliseo and dont look back
