Ok. I'm getting bug-eyed trying to figure out which of these stock rifles for the Remington 700 and Savage bolt actions have the Heavy Barrels while looking on their websites. Some of the barrels look heavy but they don't say heavy in the descriptions.

I would like to get a .308 stock Savage with the Accu-trigger or a Remington 700 with the X-pro Mark trigger that i can put into an XLR chassis.

I am choosing to go stock rifle rather than buying the barrel, trigger, and bolt separately as it looks to be cheaper and easier.

Ideally, I would like to get a stainless steel barrel with threads/muzzlebrake. But the pickings in that respect look pretty slim. So I am open to carbon steel barrel with threads/muzzlebrake. I am also open to having the threads machined. Savage Arms said they'd only charge $75 for threading the barrel tip for a muzzlebrake.

What remingon 700 and savage arms rifles will fit my needs for the heavy barrel and adj action (if possible threads/muzzelbrake)?

well...id say MTU preferred but could probably do with a max heavy varmint

However, i'm not really sure what the remington 700 and savages have to offer b/c they do not specify the contours of the barrels on their website

Re: Heavy Barrel & Adj Triggers --- Remington & Savage

X-Mark Pro™ Trigger System

It breaks like glass, has virtually zero creep and offers a level of shot control unmatched by any factory trigger today.

The X-Mark Pro™ Trigger delivers true custom-grade performance in a production trigger, and for 2009 is user-adjustable with readily available tools. Not that you’ll feel the need. This year’s version will also come from the factory with a lighter average pull weight – 3 1/2 with 2 lbs. range of adjustment. While others use gadgets and add-ons to hide inconsistencies, Remington eliminates them with state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques and the tightest possible production tolerances.

A mirror-like finish on its components enhances corrosion resistance and adds to its breaks-like-glass feel. The externally adjustable X-Mark Pro Trigger is now standard equipment on new Model 700™ and Model Seven™ rifles

Didn't realize it was standard on all Model 700s now. Some of the descriptions on their websites for the 700s state that it has the X Mark Pro but others do not say anything about the trigger

Remington's Webpage That Stated The X-Mark Pro Trigger Is Standard Now

I believe he was referring to how great Remington states the trigger is.

Re: Heavy Barrel & Adj Triggers --- Remington & Savage

That heavy in a 308, I think the savage f/tr is your only option.

Savages long range precision has a heavy, but it's 260, 6.5 creed, or 243.

Buy a long range precision action for $460, it comes with the target accutrigger, that'll do fine. Buy a prefit aftermarket barrel in your desired contour, get your xlr and go to town shooting.

Jim at NSS can get you all you need to put a savage together, a one stop shop if you will.

That would at least make the building process a little easier.

I think building is about your only option for mtu+ size.

Re: Heavy Barrel & Adj Triggers --- Remington & Savage

the target accutrigger will be suitable for a precision rifle, so that action really only costs you 340 - the xpro is not worth trying to make it usable
