I mounted up my new Bushnell HDMR with the GAP G2 reticle on my .260 yesterday and took it out to get a zero. Zeroed on the second shot. I had stapled up a resolution chart on the next target over to do some optical testing and I noticed as I settled in to shoot a group that a bee had landed on the top of the target. I couldn't help myself.

I never shoot paper if I have practical targets.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

Thats awesome. Was it moving around or was it just sitting there? Good shooting either way.

It had just flown over the top of the target backer and I made a split second decision to make him my new target, snapped on him and let 'er rip.

Yeah... it's not much of a contest between bee exoskeleton and 140 gr. BTHP @ 2850 fps.

Makes pretty short work of them.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

I have heard butcher paper, honey, and a 22 lr make a fun afternoon.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

That bee got vaporized by that laser gun .260. Haha

Re: Practical Dot Drill

Lol...awesome shooting!!!

It was pretty funny from my standpoint. One moment there is a bee on the paper. The next there is a hole where the bee was. My son was on the spotter and I thought he was going to lose it.

Another thing... either the bullet expanded a little, or it drove the bee through the paper. That hole is quite a bit bigger than the other shots I fired.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

Bees fall under the same section of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Regulations as Varmints, Mosquitoes, Tourists and the neighbors yapping dog: "Open, Unlimited, No proof of sex required". Good thing on the latter... there's hardly any proof that he ever existed at all.

Gonna have to find a smaller caliber if I hope to ever get a trophy mounted. I think the pelt may be irreparably ruined, also.

^^ = hilarious. I've got to give this a shot sometime.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

I hope you cooked that thing up and ate it. I hate irresponsible hunters. Douche bags kill everything just to kill. Is there really any sport in killing a defenseless bee?

nice shot. I think you're zeroed.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

I am patiently awaiting the next love bug hatch. I am going to take them out 2 at a time.

We looked for drumsticks and backstraps... vaporized.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

I'd give good money for high speed photography of that 140-grainer at the moment of impact.

Re: Practical Dot Drill

Was thinking more of a European mount since the wife is a bit grossed out by bee eyes.... but might go for a full body mount if I could pull off the kill shot without complete vaporization....
