I find this situation to be an interesting paradox;

1. Should dad be revered for his old-school corporal punishment in a modern society that would rather pass the buck?

3. Can the guy file assault charges against dad, or is this spanking considered consensual?

I don't get it, but maybe it's because I think rationally!

1) Spanking has it's place, but it should have never gone over to the 'boyfriend', or even to the, I assume, 16 to 17 yr. old daughter. She's too old for a spanking!

2) The dad, whether he intended to or not, committed extortion. The young man had the upper hand, and the fact that the dad was dumb enough to video tape it was the stupidest thing he could have done. Self incrimination.

3) The dad, obviously, by his tone of voice and his coercion tactics has a deep seeded fetish for spanking. Any speech analyst would eat this up!

4) Bottom line ... the dad should have taken away the keys and phone from his daughter and grounded her. The younger man should have been given a warning to 'stay away from my daughter, or I WILL prosecute!', and that should have been the end of it. I can almost guarantee that the younger man would heed the warning and steer clear.

that's great! IMHO I think the boys experience was far more valuable outside the US prison system, where he might be someones "mate". The fathers method seems to be less of a prob in places like Thailand where public humiliation is the norm and less incidence of stupid choices like sleeping with underage people.
