That wasn't a "High and Mighty" comment. Take some time and search a little. Read some of what is posted here. There are hundreds of posts regarding reloading for the 308.

Re: best reload for reminton 308

Thats a very broad question. Pipe length, twist, what kind of mag, etc? Need a little more info. I reload my 308 for $12 per 20ct using Win brass, Win primers, Hodgdon, Sierra. Thats taking into account of getting 10 reloads on same brass. If you don't load hot, one can get more. AND since its a bolt gun, one can take full advantage of neck sizing which doesn't overwork your brass so much, maximizes brass life, and may improve accuracy in some rifles. May sound complicated, but it really isn't.

I don't know what you consider "high and mighty" but it's good to take answers to posted questions as they come without getting high and mighty if you don't like what is posted in response.

Actually, when you've reloaded a bit you will realise that there is no calibrated 'best' load for any rifle at all. And one at a 'decent price for fun' has no meaning at all - no three of us are likely to agree on what that means.

I can point you to any reloading manual and insure you that, "for fun", any .308 load they list will do nicely. (And IF there was a 'best' load that's all they would list!)

Your component costs will vary by what you choose to use and where you buy them but we have no way of knowing what you'll do about that, do we?

If you know how to load, work up your own load for your gun. No two guns of identical make and model, are going to shoot the same loads the same. If you don't have to have ultimate precision, just pick the generic accuracy load from the Sierra manual.

If you don't have a # of RL-15 already
You should. Trust me 308 and RL 15 are like coffee and donuts.

Re: best reload for reminton 308

Yeah rl15 is very accurate, I have an AAC sd as well, but I would do exactly as suggested and work your own load up. Also it is going to make a difference where you are at. I have just bought another powder to work up because of temp variations of 40-45 degrees and velocity shifts. Your first question needs to be what kind of accuracy and how much are you going to shoot. Read! Damn near every question you have has been answered in a post already, plus answers to questions you have not thought of yet.

Yep and Varget and the 308 is like custom baked danish and imported coffee.

Re: best reload for reminton 308

yea dads has been reloading for many years and im gunna start so hes gunna help me there but we were just looking for some decent load to try out ya know? like to start with and see what works best and tune it to my gun we are going to neck size the brass for my gun i just wanted idea of like best powder which i see mostly everyone uses the same on that so ill stick with that and im shooting the winchester super x for now going to use the brass from that to reload and whats the best bullet for the gun we use mostly nosler ballistic tips for hunting but they are a little expensive for launching them into a bank im just starting shooting over 100 yards as well so i really dont know what the best load for distances up to 1000 yards which is what im going to try and work my way up to

btw if anyone is from Pennsylvania and would like to hook up and shoot id be grateful for any help or company you can offer

Re: best reload for reminton 308

Just buy some an eight pound lot of varget and some 168 & 175 smks. Also the 168 amax. 44 to 46 grains. Work up in small charge intervals and you can bet your ass one of them will shoot. This will not only enhance your fundamental understanding of reloading but also it will enhance your enjoyment of finding that " perfect recipe" that gives you the satisfaction of saying to your self " yeah ... I made that round that just pinged that gong at 1k. " plus it gives you an
Opportunity to escape from the bs that we men endure everyday. And by that I mean ...... Wives who can't stand guns or the outdoors and don't know why you have to "feel the need to shoot all the time "

Re: best reload for reminton 308

168 or 175 gr nosler custom comp. 43.0-45.0 gr varget or rl 15 mine is 168 or 175 with 44gr varget if it won't shoot in that area it won't shoot

Re: best reload for reminton 308

As mentioned above, the go to powders for 308 are Varget and Reloader15. There are many others as well. My 308 prefers Reloader 15 & 2000MR over Varget. Not sure why but, it wasn't pretty. I have 6 additional Varget loads to try and I'm not holding my breath. If your gun doesn't shoot with Varget, try Reloader 15 or 2000MR.

If you choose Reloader 15 try 43.3 grains with a 175SMK (or 168). With 2000MR I use 47.5grains with the same 175SMK. These bullets seem to work regardless of seating depth. I'll be switching back to them after I shoot up my 178Amax's. In my experience the 178max and my 5R don't work together very will either.

A very strange reply to a helpful response. Welcome to Snipers Hide.
