Is Ball ammo "bad" for Precision Rifles?

Good Afternoon everyone, one of my snipers once informed me that shooting de-linked 240 ammo in the 40s would be detrimental to the life and accuracy potential of the weapon.

Is this true? Obviously the ammo won’t be as accurate as a 175 grain OTM round, but would it cause anymore more wear and tear than the M118LR round?

I have about 5000 rounds of linked surplus that I shoot in my M14 clones, I’d like to be able to shoot some of it in my GAP m40a5 when I get it. Would this be a bad idea?

won't hurt it.. except, it's using up barrel life that could be used for accurate shooting... as long as the ammo isn't corrosive

most people just won't shoot "junk" ammo in a precision rifle because it's a waste... why spend $3000 on a rifle to shoot ammo that won't let it reach it's full potential

It will only hurt it in the fact that it was a round shot. If you are only shooting a few hundred yds and the ammo shoots well enough why not.

It also would not be a bad idea to know the drops just in case that is all you have.

With that being said give your M14's some love and let them use it up. Granted you can do whatever makes you happiest.
