I am having a 308 rifle built. Currently shoot to 800 yards new range will have 1000 yards.

Shot at sea level
175 SMK or 175 Nosler
use 45gr. varget, get about 2750 fps
Currently shoot these loads with 26" barrel TRG-22

New rifle will be 308 Kreiger heavy varmint barrel contour #17 which is 1.25 to .900 with 1:11 twist.
I can make it as long as 28" I believe.

Weight is not a concern.

At what point if any do I reach a point of diminishing returns as fars velocity goes?

Re: Barrel Length Advice Requested

It would come down to are you willing to tailor your load around getting max speed and max accuracy. If you are willing to do the necessary steps to maximize velocity the go the full 28". If you are satisfied with accuracy and just want a bit more speed the extra speed caused by added length will be nominal.

however if you said weight is not an issue why not go the full 28"

Yes, definately willing to taylor load for rifle to be built. I was thinking more speed would equal greater accuracy at longer distances.

Rifle is to be built by Robert Gradous so I expect it to be a very nice rifle.

EDITED; It will also have an SRTarms suppressor on the end another 9". It will be in a AICS folder chassis.
