I'm guessing by the way I broke my decapping pin of my Lee universal decapping die on the very first 38 spl. that I tried to decap, that the Forster Coax won't align the pin and primer on account of the floating die. Can anyone confirm this or does anyone's similar arrangement function for universay decapping?

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

I use extensively the Lee U.D.D.,and sometime can have failures centering the pin even in average presses, but it's not necessarily a problem of the press or of the Lee UDD: sometime the primer hole in the brass can be slightly out of center,or have some inside burr leaved from the factory,or,if not CO-AX presses, simply it's the slight play between the hull and the shellholder_ I think the best solution is goin'slow, anyway, trying by hand to help the centering of the brass_

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

I use the Lee Universal die with my COAX all the time. I have never had a problem.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

In my case its usually because I don't have the case seated properly in the shellholder, its misaligned for some reason and the pin isn't properly aligned with the flash hole. You're pin broke? I've had this happen to me a few times and the decapping pin just pops out of the top of the die, its the "defense mechanism" the die has for situations like this.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

Are you using a Forster lock ring or the Lee hex nut?

I had some issues getting cases de primed until I took the hex nut off.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

I use one with my coax. The few Pins I have broken have been due to a pesky .22 case hiding inside a larger one. I do tend to go slower to make sure the pin finds the flash hole and don't tighten the collet that holds the pin super tight.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

Anything we can damage in a Lee Universal will destroy any other decap die.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

Never had that issue with my Lee Decapper in my co-ax, but I don't run it super fast and use little force to do the work so I don't see how it could happen. I would use Forster or Hornady lock rings so it can move, also they don't need to be super tight.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

you broke the pin or it pushed up thru the collet on the top which is what it is designed to do? Breaking a pin on a lee decapper is hard to do.

I use it in my coax all the time.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

The pin is broken.

I used the hex ring that came with the die.

This was my first (and only) pull of a press. I didn't know if the resistance (slight) was normal or not.

Lee is sending me a new pin.

The coax can be adapted to use a shell holder. I've not looking into this yet but it sounds like I should be able to do this without the shell holder going by what some have said here.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

Do not convert the press to shell holders, I suspect you broke your pin due to the jaws not being adjusted properly, or crimped primer pockets, in the 7 years and many many thousands of rounds I have reloaded with my Co-Ax I have only broken 1 decapping pin in my RCBS decapping die, let's also face it, Lee stuff works but they don't make the best stuff, but the most affordable.

Listening to 427cobra will save you time and effort. When he talks about Co-Ax I listen.

Use the Forster lock ring.

Re: Forster Coax and Lee Universal Decapper

Any chance your jaws on the Co-Ax are sticking?

I had a similar problem on mine and the jaw was sticking slightly because of the lube and other crap that had gotten on it.
