I poked around a bit to see if there were any shooters or groups in and around Phoenix without success. I think I am about to find myself relocated there and I am not very happy about it. However, I want to make the best of the damned desert and I know there have got to be some great places/groups/private clubs/secluded valleys I might be able to get in to.

I have been spoiled for some time basically having weekly access to CQB and 50-300M ranges on post so I have no desire to hit the public range with the mobs of the possibly uneducated, definitely undisciplined, and potentially unstable and the angry RSOs they require. I get flagged enough by trainees and ass-clowns that I can generally conduct wall-to-wall counseling on. Apparently doing such things with civilians is frowned upon.

So anyone know of good places to engage from 0-1000M in the vast desert with the usual fare of 9mm, 5.56, and 7.62? I have looked at some comps held by Phoenix Rod and Gun Club and they look pretty interesting (Tactical Carbine Defense-Heavy) http://www.phoenixrodandgun.org/Divisions/Practical/Practical.html Thanks! -Rob

Check out the Desert Sharp Shooters Club that practices at Ben Avery Shooting Facility. If memory serves, the long distance ranges at Ben Avery are not open to the public, but are open to members of the Sharp Shooters Club. Otherwise, Scottsdale Gun Club in a nice indoor range with membership options. Welcome to AZ.

Table Mesa Rd North of Anthem, just be sure to follow all the rules and clean up after yourself.

Re: Groups/Shooters/Clubs in and around Phoenix, AZ

Table Mesa closed all summer due to fire danger. Has that been lifted now due to recent rains ?

Re: Groups/Shooters/Clubs in and around Phoenix, AZ

Every thursday morning we practice at phoenix rod and gun, we reserve the range. we start at 100/200yds, then move back to 300 then to 500yds. We have the range from 7-11am. Sometimes we bring out props and steel other times we shoot paper.

We won't be out this thursday as 7 of us are driving to norcal for their match.

isn't there a 1000 yd club near Tuscan also?

Yes Tucson Rifle Club (Three Points) has a 1000 yd range, they have a website if you do a quick search. It's 25 miles west of Tucson

Re: Groups/Shooters/Clubs in and around Phoenix, AZ

Hello,
I will be coming to Phenoix AZ from outside the US and I was curious if anybody would be interested in letting me and my dad tag along for one if their shooting sessions, it will be end of march to mid April, I do a lot of long range shooting here but we don't get the gas guns and the cans that you guys get and I'd like to see how it's done, thanks for the interest.
