I'm having some trouble with my prone technique. If I shoot this particular rifle/ammo off a bench/sandbags, I can regularly get groups less than 1/2 inch. If I shoot off a bipod from prone, my groups are more like 1" and the separation is mostly in the horizontal direction. I'm obviously doing something inconsistently. Can you suggest what I'm not paying attention to?

also check your trigger pull and make sure it is straight back and also that you are not allowing the rifle to drift horizontally when you apply trigger pressure, you might want to check how you are gripping your rear bag as you may be inadvertently applying a lateral pressure [more towards left or right and not straight back], these are what i discovered when i was having that issue...adjusting these fixed it, good luck!

Lots of good tips here - thanks! I'll have to pay closer attention to the where the rifle is pointing after I fire a shot. What I've noted thus far is the crosshair is on the target, (maybe not centered), but high 2-3moa.

One thing I'm doing that may be a no-no is I'm pinching the trigger to the back of the trigger guard. Is this a bad thing to do?

My rear bag handling is very suspect. I don't have the rear bag at my shoulder but rather under the stock forward of the buttplate. It's very possible I'm steering the rear bag as I build up pressure on the trigger.

I'll have to see if I can find someone in the area that has good consistent prone technique. I think I know one guy that is pretty good.

Thanks again for the tips. It gives me some ideas of what to look for.
