I know these are few and far between but there are some big time 1911 guys on this forum and I would love to see some motivation from one or more of them.

I am currently saving to eventually own one and it would be nice to hear some feedback and see some pics. Thanks fellas

This one isn't mine, I only wish it were and I hope Mr. Burton over at HP doesnt mind me posting his masterpiece here. Some day I will own a grail 1911!

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

The lines on that one are beautiful. Huge 1911 fan but haven't had the pleasure of shooting an hp

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I've shot an HP a little over a year or so ago. Wasn't really all that impressed to be 100% honest. The guy that brought it over to show it to me said it was a safe queen.

Don't get me wrong ... they're great guns, but why pay for a safe queen when you can own an Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, or Nighthawk Customs for half the price? Then there's the accuracy aspect. My Kimber Team Match II will shoot circles around the HP for 1/3 the cost.

I guess if you are looking for a collectable gun... sure, but I lean toward practical.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

If you are willing to drop the cash on one, then I said go ahead. The guys at Heirloom are great to work with and will truly make you an heirloom piece.

With that said, I find myself less and less thrilled with high-end customs. I love them but have owned a bunch over the years (and still have a few) and am just getting away from them more and more. My handgun NEEDS are met by Glock 19s and 17s and I get by without REALLY high-end spending on 1911s and hi-powers these days by requesting fewer features, finding that trigger work and sights get me by without much else wanted or needed at this point.

I DO have a single unmodified Series 70 Colt Government Model that belonged to my departed father that I'm considering having Ted work on. If I do, that will probably be the last time that I drop that much money on a single firearm.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I already have a Les Baer TRS 1.5" and will own a few of the names you mentioned probably Nighthawk and Ed Brown, however I really want something I know in my mind has had every single detail gone over by one of the best gunsmiths in the country.

Also getting a full custom you can add anything you want. I know WC will do it as well but they are damn near as expensive as a full custom as well.

I'm sure you Kimber TM II shoots more accusrate than I ever could but I would be pretty shocked if it can out shoot a full blown custom and probably be surprised if it can even outshoot my LB. I've been wrong before and will be in the future but just my opinion. Definitely dont want to start a flame war, just opinion.

If you dont mind answering what weren't you impressed by? Fit, finish, accuracy, detail? Do you know which builder at HP built it. Was it a full build or just some work? Thanks, I just want to get the facts before I drop this kind of money.

Also I will never own a safe queen. I love to shoot and would shoot it and shoot it often. I may not carry it, however that is yet to be determined. It may very well make it in the rotation, time will tell.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I agree that a glock will do whatever I need and I liked mine a lot although I sold my Gen 4 Glock 17. I thought the glock was a great gun. Accurate, reliable, high cap, and reasonbly priced. I will probably have another some day in.

As far as the custom guns go its pretty impressive you have owned many and I'm jealous. I will probably only have one in my lifetime which is why I want to make sure I get exactly what I want.

That is a special Colt you have and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure a great custom would be a hell of a way to remember a loved one.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

Lionsden, I would say do it. Heirloom Precision guns are like art work and sadly some will never see it like that. I dont have one yet but one day I will.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

ok seriously lets not turn this into a glock vs. 1911 thread. i will lose my mind on you retards.

Jason is a awesome guy and does amazing work, he will be building a gun for me soon. I have three 1911's all are full house customs by diferent smiths, i ALSO own glocks, Hk's, Sigs, etc. they all serve a purpose. If you can't apreciate a full house 1911 then don't buy one. if you can't shoot a bolt gun worth a shit and own a surgeon... i stop right there.

go over to the louder then words forum or 1911pro.com to see a lot of his stuff, he posts on both those sites fairly regularly when he finishes a build. Some pics from over there

Thanks BJ,

Bolded part made me literally LOL! That series 80 is gorgeous. The lines are absolutley amazing.

I've been lurking on LTW for a while and thats where I first saw JB's work. Is your Colt by him, Steve or Ted? How many rounds have you fired from that beaut?

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

actually my three are from diferent people.

i have a WWI repro done by steve morrison
a rail gun frame with stainless series 70 slide done by Steve as well
and a pre-series 80 commander being done by Chris James of combat precision

my guns are all cerakoted, hard use type guns. Still have some nice machining and stuff but i didn't go blue or hard chrome, no real intricate french borders. Should have my rail gun in a couple weeks.

on my short list of guns i would like are a 1911 from chuck rogers and one from jason, john harrison is in my top three as well. problem is full house stuff from john is upwards of 2-4 year wait right now. Chuck isn't doin full house builds to customer spec, and even jason's wait list is over a year.

Jardine customs, CT brian, Dave Berryhill are also some of my favorite smiths.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

You are a lucky man BJ. I agree with everyone you listed as great smith's and CT Brian and of course Chuck Rogers. Ned Christiansen would be up there as well as Don Williams.

I just pretty much decided on Jason due to his style and wait times seem to be relatively reasonable. His Attention to detail seems amazing as well.

I will probably only ever own one full house so im really going through all options on build but I have a good idea so far. I say only one but I said the same thing about 1911's period when I got my Baer.

Awesome builds you have and sounds like you arent done yet!

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

yes ned and don are definately top tier smiths. agreed.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I'd love to have builds from all these guys but wait times and cash flow would need to be astronomical.

Maybe some day I'll have a couple or 4

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I have several from the LTW crew still in my safe (I've sold a few already)

I have a full house Lightweight Commander (factory 38 Super; made in 1958) from Ted;

a full house Kimber UltraCarry "SideWinder" NIB unfired from Tim Brian (listed in for sale currently)

A Kimber Custom Classic (mim removed and bulletproof components installed by John Harrison.

I've posted some pictures of them before I need to try to find them and repost them.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I used to be big on high end 1911's. Still have two.

As I got to the point that I started using my guns harder, wearing on them more, Ive been more reluctant to spend big bucks on a handgun when the exact same thing can be accomplished with a $550 gun that I consider a tool anyways.

Not to argue Glock VS 1911. Just that quality 1911's are stratospheric in costs compared to other handguns that run every bit as nice, if not nicer, for a 10th the price as some of these extravagant customs.

That being said, if the custom 1911 revs your motor, then whats worth what is strictly defined buy what the buyer feels is worth it.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

+1 for John Harrison

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

I'd love to see some pics, sounds like you have some great builds under your belt.

Thanks for everyone's replies and I agree with what most are saying as far as tools. I have owned most all brands you guys can are naming and in the end for some I guess it isnt "just" a tool.

Some guys its knives, scopes, precision rifles, etc. We all have our thing. Does every man need a Tacops rifle, a Surgeon, and a GAP? No they need all of them and a KMW right

If you get what you want and it makes you happy does the price really matter? Not to me. Thanks again fellas my 2 cents

I own and have have owned several and the semi customs which is really just a nice way of saying small scale production guns aren't even close. These are functional works of art and are built to be run, and run hard.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

Love that white dot Joe.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

Holy SH*T now that is a fighting pistol. That slide to frame fit is frog's ass tight. If people aren't convinced by these builds they never will be. Oh yeah by the way I have an extra kidney if you want to trade
grin.gif

Congrats on your new 1911 build. You chose a great build by a great builder. If you dont mind what was your wait time? Ted is a highly sought after builder, no doubt one of the best!

Also couldnt quite tell in the pics, is that a gold line front sight?

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

The slide to frame fit on this one is perfect...zero play but smooth and easy to rack. Ted and Jason just fit 'em up right.

Front sight is a gold line.

And keep any eye out, may be looking for a kidney soon ;-)

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

There are some outstanding fighting 1911's here for sure.

StealthGhost,

Some mighty fine pistols you have there sir! The flat triggers look fantastic as well.

The front strap on the Magwelled 1911 looks awesome and aggressive. Is it too much grip or just right?

I have a feeling this thread is going to cost me a lot of money

Lionsden,

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it will cost you $ no doubt.
Those two in the pic (Combat Commander & Colt Government) are Chuck Rogers. The Magwell blaster's front strap is his "Golfball" pattern. It is not aggressive at all just the pic shadows or lighting. Very comfortable & non fatiguing in reality. The pre series 70 Combat Commander's are 20 Lpi.

I've gone down the full custom road before, and it's not for me.

I didn't mind the wait (I've waited just as long for my bolt guns), but in the end, I didn't find it anymore accurate/reliable/anything than a tuned up Springfield.

Don't get me wrong. You guys have (and I had) beautiful pistols, but unless the name means a lot (atleast a couple grand) to you, I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Heirloom Precision 1911 owners requested

Although you very well may be right about the accuracy, reliability, etc I guess I'll have to find out if its worth it for myself.
I could probably say the same thing about a tuned remington 5R but I bet you would rather have TRG or a AI right, or I guess in this case a Tacops, GAP, surgeon, etc.

I appreciate your input and thats a fine pistol you posted. I like the layout of the offset of the black and chrome/stainless parts.
