7mm-08 Action

[Dark Horse]

I'm looking to build a 7mm-08 rifle for long range matches/tactical shooting. I will shoot 168 Berger VLD's almost exclusively and have decided on a JAE700 stock.

What I have not decided on yet is the action it will be built on. My initial thought is a Surgeon short action but wouldn't mind hearing from other shooters what they are using and why.

I went with Surgeon action and DBM, with a Krieger barrel for my 7-08. Roscoe did the barrel work.

If you wanted to run the AW mags then Defiance or Badger would be my pick, otherwise, it would be Surgeon.

Not sure the Badger would fit your stock choice.

I do like the Badger but I don't believe it will work with the JAE stock.

I would go badger if any smiths can modify the JAE700.

I believe that the JAE comes with is own bottom metal that take some variation of the AI, AICS I think. Besides that you can't go wrong with bottom metal from Badger, Surgeon, APA, ect. Do you already have the stock? I know they still have some lengthy wait times.

After speaking to Josh at Defiance and learning more about them, the decision is swinging their way.

Per Lisa at JAE, only AICS mags will work, AW will not.
