I'm not, but I will have to check that out. I've been looking at the wood gasifiers that you posted up. I found some detailed plans, it looks like something that I can build quite easily, I'd like to give it a go.

Everyone likes pics, so i thought I'd post a couple of the property that we took back in march when the kids wanted to go there for spring break.

Hey Force, how far outside McAlester are you? I grew up spending alot of time at my cousins in the Kiamichis between Antlers and you. Small community that only exists in name anymore called Jumbo.

the hunting place is on the "mountain" at Panola

Adding insulation to refrigerators: Since the coils that radiate the heat from a fridge are now buried inside the sides of the fridge, adding insulation to the OUTSIDE of the fridge is self defeating.
Using an older unit that has it's coils on the outside, or building a commercial type unit that has it's compressor and coils outside the building might be more practical.
If there is a refrigeration expert on here, please weigh in, as I am no expert at all.

you're mostly right... which is why I searched for a chest that is basically an older design... coils on the rear only and not frost free

Re: off grid hunting camp/weekend get away

Here's our little shack. Dad said he got the solar panel all wired up and working this week, that's mounted on the shit house.

Click on em, they get bigger.

Edit:

Found this one to putit all in perspective. This is what she started as back in 2007, we have done a little work on it lol.

that's just beautiful... I don't see mine ever being that fancy, but I even want that aluminum boat...lol </div></div>

Thank you! All the wood on the walls was cut from behind the house, then dads Amish friend took the logs and made the tongue and grove for the inside. Half logs were cut by the same Amish guy. Leave it to my old man to polish a Miro craft boat to a mirror shine lol. It's finally to the point we can party and enjoy it a little. Best of luck in building your cabin, it's a lot of work but it sure is fun.

Re: off grid hunting camp/weekend get away

If you made a shower like the one in the video you linked us to, but used a metal container to hold the water instead of plastic, could you rig up some kind of firebox right below it to heat the water during the winter? If your area got cold enough it might even ice up which would cause flow problems, obviously, and keep you from being able to use it.

Either way, not something I really care for the thought of.

Re: off grid hunting camp/weekend get away

been a while again, but made a little progress... found a GP small military tent local, traded a used Glock for it, so I have $400 in it... it'll definitely work until the cabin is finished...

GP small w/ A/C running off the generator at night, lets me start on the bath house now instead of the cabin, and it'll even get me through fall/winter deer season w/ a wood burning stove if need be.

Have a 325 gallon food grade OBC tank for a water tower also

Re: off grid hunting camp/weekend get away

Sir, Read somewhere in the long list of posts that you decided to go wih gasoline generator. Ever gave thought to getting a converter kit for the carbureator- can go from gasoline to LP. For fuel source if needed. Just a thought.

I did think about a tri-fuel generator... and if I could get LP delivered, that would definitely be the way to go, but gasoline is easier as long as I'm hauling in small amounts and not using a lot.
