New AICS skins?

Has AI released the news pistol-gripped skins yet? I heard the viperskins are good but also heard the new AI skins will be cheaper.

Re: New AICS skins?

I heard the same. But one of the reasons was that AI, being a much larger company, was trying to knock Viper skins off of the market. This would allow AI to get the foothold that Victor Company had established. This is all information that I heard from some folks in the industry not just scuttlebutt.

I appreciate the AI rifles, chassises and products but I'll support Victor Company where ever possible.

I guess if Victor goes tits up and AI suddenly raises the price of their skins we'll all know that's the case but I really doubt it.

Re: New AICS skins?

In order to put this in the correct perspective, we have sold our legacy thumbhole stock sides for many years at a similar price to what we plan to sell the new pistol grip stock sides.
Accuracy International is first and foremost a sniper rifle company. We also have a well established market with our chassis systems primarily based on the Remington 700. We have a magazine market as well.
AI established the modern sniper rifle construction back in the 1980's and in the late 90's the chassis entered production. We have produced our magazines for decades.
In the past 10 years competitors have moved toward the same construction as AI have been using for years in both sniper rifles and chassis. Others have blatantly copied our magazines. We recognize competition and think it is healthy. We developed the AX range to keep ahead of the competition which is where the pistol grip stock side came from. It has always been our plan to make pistol grip stock sides available for AW, AE and legacy AICS. We plan to sell them around the same price as we have been selling stock sides for years. We do not have a strategy to put anyone out of business and increase price. We do have plans to increase production in all areas in order to meet the demand and remain competitively priced. Anyone who has followed our pricing knows we have had few price increases in the past 8 years.
You will be able to obtain a good value set of replacement pistol grip stock sides for AW, AE and AICS soon and we will meet all market demands. It will be interesting to see who changes price.

Who will be changing their price you say? Yeah I have a pretty good notion that their initials are victor company.

Tom, any update on a time frame when MileHigh is going to get the new skins?

Simply untrue Tom.

If you do in fact sell your new skins for $100 it is much less than the old skin price of $150. You are practically giving your skins away to dilute the market.

Let's speak the truth.

(eta- here are your 1.5 skins are for $170... in 2008 http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/PDF/AI_ACC_PriceList_08.pdf)

Thanks for your support guys. I've worked very hard to improve the shooter's experience with AI products. AI makes good stuff but there is always room for improvement.

What makes Victor Co different from most companies is we exist for the love of shooting first and making money second. And this fact is why we can't be pushed out of the market, we will always be here (even if AI wants to engage in predatory pricing.)

So if we sell less skins, so be it. I'll still be right here, answering all your questions, sponsoring your matches and shooting right along side of you guys. I've never had so much fun as developing our products. We aren't going anywhere. : )

Re: New AICS skins?

I have quite a few AICS stocks. All but one have the original sides. That one has Viperskins. More would have VIperskins if I wasn't aware that the new skins from AI were on the way. I have not seen them and want to see what they look like and what they cost. The only reason I finally tried VIperskins is the 149.99 deal thru Mile HIgh. I thought they were, honestly, too expensive. If I like VIperskins better then I will buy them. Likewise with AI's new skins. Plain and simple, I will buy what works best for me and not worry about cost (especially if only a few dollars).
But, in the meantime, a public was of words here between Tom and Michael will, IMHO, will show no class from either.

Re: New AICS skins?

I want to be clear about one thing, I am AI's biggest fan. That is why I make my products. I love AI gear. I want them to do well. I want them to sell sell sell!

They make the best rifles in the world, bar none. They moved our sport light years ahead. The machining process that they use to make their bolts and actions verges on magic.

I am a user, a fan and recommend them to everyone.

Re: New AICS skins?

yeah why are you guys getting spun up? victor makes stuff FOR AI rifles... why would he want to get in a pissing match with them? I'm sure even if they sell their skins for less, he will think of some new idea for a rifle that will change the game once again. People like Mike are the ones that keep this sport ever evolving.

I don't see either company going away any time soon. I have seen pics of the new AI skins and they look like the old AI skins with a pistol grip. If the idea was to compete with the Viper Skins they have more work to do. The Viper Skins were a redesign, the new AI skins feel like a "here's your old skins, with a pistol grip!" approach.

Competition drives innovation so the more the merrier. I have just about all of the Victor Company products and they are all excellent and obvious responses to market demand. Michael Victor is making a business out of small, obvious, and neglected tweaks to make a popular product better. Good on him for doing it! To those that say "I will buy AI skins because of the price" I say try both first, or you will likely regret it. Support a good guy and small, American made, business. AI is a large, wealthy company. Rifles are their bread and butter, not skins.

I am pleased to hear that AI are a large wealthy company. Seeing as we brought the company from bankruptcy 7 years ago and started with 7 employees that is not bad going. We are a medium sized company and our bread and butter is rifles but AICS are a close second. We have made AICS for the past 6 years in the USA with a small American made business in Western New York. We are also dedicated to the USA and plan to support the market better than we have ever done.

Did I give too much credit? Sorry if you aren't doing as well as I perceived. I love your chassis, it's great. There is always room for improvement though, and that's what Victor Company is doing.

If aftermarket skin sales are a big portion of your profit margin I apologize and stand corrected. I will ask, because I don't know, where was AI originally started? I'd be happy to support two US companies, and believe I am as I purchase products from both of you.

That said, I like VC's skins better, but your chassis lies beneath. I'm considering an AX chassis. If you guys catch up and overtake VC I may buy your skins in the future. As I said, competition drives innovation.

Re: New AICS skins?

For those of us who like the thumbhole but would also like the improved butt-hook that appears on the AX, Viperskins and the new AI skins, when can we expect something in that configuration from either company. I am not partial to one over the other as quality is what matters to me, price just means I get to practice using patience. Who ever makes the products that fit my preferences and needs while producing quality work and not cutting corners is the one who will get my business. This is just my wishes for a product and view point as the consumer/ end-user.

I have to disagree. You CAN be pushed out of the market. It happens all the time with a variety of businesses selling a variety of products.

Re: New AICS skins?

Tom, where exactly would one find these new AICS skins? Every place I have checked on the Accuaracy distributor list doesn't even show them listed as out of stock.

Re: New AICS skins?

While we are on this subject, do either the VC skins or the AI skins allow for the Atlas monopod?

Our current rear V-Skins do not accept the monopod unless we cut them to accept them.

Hope that helps..

Re: New AICS skins?

Thank you Michael. Thats what I was looking for.

Re: New AICS skins?

Tom, while we are on new products can you give us any info on the Savage AICS. Will it hit the market soon, is the AX stock planned too.

Re: New AICS skins?

Will the AI skins have access to the action screws? Just wondering as I understand the Viperskins do not w/o removing the skins. Just wondering. CKruse

Re: New AICS skins?

Does anybody know if AI is making them for an AW 1.0 stock?

Great, thanks Tom. One more question, if the original stock sides on the AICS chassis came with the monopod cut out why didn't AI do the same for the new pistol grip stock sides?

Re: New AICS skins?

Ultraman,
I think the original stocks came before the monopod came out and it was designed around the stocks. On the new ones we have worked with Accupod and there is a way to fit it...You should contact Accupod.
