I finally received my stock yesterday and was just wondering what is a good action screw torque for these particular stocks with the 700 sps AAC-SD barreled actions? All I have is a wheeler Fat Wrench. Thanks!

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

The Fat Wrench should be fine. I have the same stock on a 700 Tactical and I torqued it to 65pds.

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

I've used the Fat Wrench to torque my Sendero to 65 lbs, which seems to be the commonly suggested torque for an aluminum bedding block. works great

Agree ........ 65 is too high for factory bottom metal.

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

Not to hijack a thread, but you shouldn't be torquing a stock with aluminum bedding block/factory bottom metal to 65in/lbs? I haven't heard/read that anywhere before. Is the metal too soft or something? What would be a good recommendation? I just installed a B&C Light Tactical and torqued down to 65in/lbs as per instructions...my choate stock is also set there, and they seem to be shooting/functioning fine...input?

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

The issue is the factory Remington bottom metal, not the stock. 40-45 inch pounds is about as heavy as you want to go to avoid cracking and/or galling. After market bottom metals are fine to torque to 65 inch pounds.

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

Hmm interesting. never had any of my bottom metals crack @ 65in/lbs...i'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks!

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

I torqued mine to 50"/lbs before I got a chance to get back here since the wife was playing her facebook games plus, for some reason I was having trouble getting this forum to load yesterday. Maybe I should re torque to 40"/lbs to be safe? Thanks Folks!

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Rem 700

I torque mine to 64in/lbs, hasn't even scraped the finish off the countersinks, if it cracks I suppose I'll have a good reason to go aftermarket. That said I don't think action torque is really that big of a deal, pick one, stick with it, the main idea/purpose is simply to set a point to return to for the purpose of predictable repeatable performance after reassembly of the stock and barreled action.
