Hey all,

I recently got a howa 1500 action and I just got a bell and Carlson medalist for it. I fitted the stock up and noticed that the rear action screw was only engaging 2 1/2 turns whilst the front turns in maybe 5 or 6 turns. If I look at the rear screw from the top I can see that there is thread left for it to turn up into. Is this normal? Do I need a longer screw? And if so is it something I can just get from a hardware store or does it need to be specially ordered? Sorry for the question overload Im just confused and whilst I found stuff in the search about short action screws I saw nothing about how to tell if they are too short.

Cheers in advance.

Dean.

Re: Short action screws....howa1500

They're just a regular M6x1 thread so any decent fastener shop should have a selection in 5mm length increments.

I figured I'd be able to get them like that. Good to know they aren't special tho! Thanks^^

How do I know if they're too short tho? And if they are will it affect the accuracy?

If they strip out, they were too short.

I would get longer screws and then trim them until they were as long as they could be without hitting something vital or protruding from the top of the tang.
