I will be getting my D-930 clip on from Night Optics USA, should be here by Monday, I built a mount to connect it to my rail on the McRee chassis. It is a gen 3, hand select tube. I am looking forward to testing it, it will be my first time getting my feet wet with NV equipment. I have been told that the Noise/Signal ratio will be a 27 or higher and from what I have read, that sounds good, I will post up some pics and results from testing, we are looking forward to getting out and banging some steel at night with it and verify if there is any POI shifts, etc before I take it out coyote hunting, etc... I was really hoping that something would materialize with the WASP from TNVC when I had my fundage saved up, but I have not heard any news on that and patience is not one of my strong points

I am also looking forward to testing out the IR filters I got for my GO-LIGHT spot lights to see how effective they are at distance, I have a hand-held and a mag-mount remote control unit that is vehicle mounted. I will post up some pics and what kind of results I get with it! Looking forward to playing at night and eventually posting up some Coyote,Bobcat, and hopefully some day a mountain lion NV kill!

Re: D-930 clip on

I have always eye the 930 but never seen one in person be sure to give use some feedback when it arrives

Re: D-930 clip on

I am really looking forward to range report. What is the recoil rating and really want some through the tube pics.

Re: D-930 clip on

It finally made it in on Saturday....I was out of town, so I got it Monday am. We went out and tested it last night, the wind was gusting up to 28-30 mph. We didn't spend alot of time out there as the dust was miserable in the Las Vegas desert last night, but I shot it at 300 yards at steel and did not have to adjust my dope to get impacts on steel at that range, both subsonic load and my standard load worked with the same dope. The moon was bright last night, but the sky was somewhat overcast if that makes sense? There were not many visible stars, but the moon was bright...anyway. The target was visible and we put rounds on it, I was going to play with my "GO-LIGHT" with the IR filter on it, but when we turned it on behind the rifle, the scope went "green" It was so windy and miserable out there we didn't play around with different shooting positions, will test more later. I will post up some pics coming up, one of my shooting partners took some "through the scope pics" It was a little rough in the conditions we were in, I will be doing plenty more testing though
smile.gif
All in all I am very happy with it so far and look forward to spending more time putting it through its paces and playing with the gain, focus, and various magnifications. I have it in front my USO 3.2x17x44, I cranked it all the way up on magnification last night and you could still use it at max power, but it did degrade the image....more to come as I get more rounds down range with it and have more to report...

Re: D-930 clip on

Here are some pics of the unit, I will talk to Dane and see if I can get him to either send me a pic of through the scope, or just have him post it here...will work on getting some better target pics through the scope.

Re: D-930 clip on

looks good so far. do you know if there is a recoil rating and what tube they use in this thing?

thanks,

Re: D-930 clip on

It is an ITT tube. Here are the specs from the spec sheet, I went with a hand select unit, let me know what you think (to the experts, most of this is jibberish to me, but I had read that you want a minimum of 23 as far as signal/noise ratio, this one has a 29), other than that I will leave it to you "in the know" to let me know what you think.

reading min max
Luminous (uA/W), min 2406 1350 N/A
Radiant .830 um (mA/W),min 268 2 1000

Halo, max. .95 N/A 1.25

EBI phot max .68 N/A 2.3
2x10-6fc(K),max 57960 40000 80000

Center (lp/mm), min 64 57 82

FOM, max. 1862.4 N/A N/A
Signal to Noise, min 29.1 16.2 45

I do not know what the recoil rating is, I have seen one pictured on a Barrett, not sure if it was just a photo-op, or if it actually got ran on there, but I have seen the picture!

Re: D-930 clip on

Here is a pic that Dane took through the tube the other night, we will try to get some better ones on the next outing, this was just pointing over the target at a distant mountain, the wind was a bitch that night and it was a very sensitive operation trying to get the right distance behind the scope and hold still enough not to get out of the sweet spot when you pressed the button on the camera, but here is our first attempt at a through the scope pic...

throughthescopepicNV.jpg

You can just see the top of the mountain in the bottom of the scope.

Re: D-930 clip on

from what i am reading these things have an 18mm pinnacle tube in them. i want to know what the difference is between them and the pvs-14 tube as that is the same size tube. this has me curious as to how they are attaining the recoil mitigation for this tube or if in fact it is a completely different tube rated for higher recoil. something tells me it is not.

Re: D-930 clip on

I posed this question to the dealer that I bought the unit from, he indicated that it is BMG capable. He has personally used them on 338's and 300 win mag. He was going to do some testing on a fifty BMG this weekend...

My spec sheet does not say Pinnacle on it, it says "EXELIS" after ITT.

Re: D-930 clip on

That was the best photo i could get with my crappy loaner cell phone. The wind gusts up to 30mph and blowing dirt made it a rough one.

I think we need to get a better photo, hint hint!... night shoot!!!!

Re: D-930 clip on

get some more pictures up of this thing through the tube at some targets. i wanna see what its got.

Re: D-930 clip on

I will definitely get back on it, it has been hectic at work and hotter than hell here in the desert, so when I have been off of work I haven't had any energy for night shoots, but I am definitely going to do a lot more testing and will get some pics through the tube etc... at distance. Still want to play around with my IR spotlights too to see how much that will help.

Fuck yeah, lets do it!

Re: D-930 clip on

Well I got a few pics through the scope...My pics kind of suck, but this thing is very clear....pictures don't do it justice, but I will post a few here to give you an idea...just know that my shitty pics are a poor example of actual clarity...

First one is of a fake lizard on my back wall (20 yards roughly)

Next ones are of a stop sign 1 block away on 3.2 magnification on the USO. (I will get a range on it tomorrow, I didn't attempt to range it tonight, just dicking around taking pics)

NightVisionVII.jpg

NightVisionV.jpg

Here is on max power 17X (still very clear when looking through the scope, the adjustable gain and focus work very well to pick out details, again it doesn't translate well in the pics, but I am very pleased so far and look forward to more testing in the field.)

NightVisionVIIII.jpg

NightvisionI.jpg

I haven't been able to play with it as much as I had hoped, just got back from vacation and am having a bunch of work done on the house, so things have been hectic, but I will keep y'all posted and put up some more pics as I go along.

P.S. The stop sign pics were taken through a glass window as well, may show up clearer in pics if I was laying in the yard (although they still looked very crisp when looking through scope)...thought the neighbors may have freaked if they saw me in the prone on the lawn though

Re: D-930 clip on

Thanks for the update. Where did you get the rail mount that fits the D-930 I like that setup better than the scope grabber/lever system.

Re: D-930 clip on

I just robbed the clamps from a couple scope rings and use that to clamp the two rails together, works well, would be nice if there was a quick release mount available. I couldn't find one, I may talk to a machine shop and see if I can get one fabricated eventually. Would make it alot less cumbersome for quickly attaching/detaching in the field.

Re: D-930 clip on

Made it out last night with the guys for a night shoot, it was a very overcast night, at 400 yards you could see the target un-aided if you knew where it was, but it blended in with the surroundings and probably would not have been identifiable if you didn't already know where it was. We were able to use the "GO LIGHT" with the IR filter on it and it worked amazing as long as the light is in front of the rifle, if it is behind your position, it "greens out" the scope and you cannot see anything, if you have the light set up in front of your position the targets were lit up like it was daylight and with the filter on there there is no "visible light beam" being projected, I was very pleased with the results. I will be saving my pennies to get a weapon mounted IR laser as my next addition to the set up. We did not test at any other distances, we just played around at the 400 yard firing line, will be testing further to see what the range capabilities of the "GO LIGHT" night vision combo are on various light conditions.

Re: D-930 clip on

Firing line. It was a windy bitch out there, pretty muggy for Vegas too because of the lightening storms that had been rolling through. We had a good amount of cloud cover, I don't recall the stars or moon being visible.

The far target is 400 yards away, its a 25"x15" IPSC. The near targets are paper we had set up at 100 yards. This is unassisted without the Go Light. The picture doesn't do it much justice. I was able to find the target and hold for wind using the reticle. I should have gotten a picture through the scope with the Go Light.

Re: D-930 clip on

Here are a few cell phone pics through the scope that I took tonight witht the new Torch from TNVC. The truck is about 75 yards away.

My cell phone pics do not do it justice. I wanted to get out and do some shooting tonight, but once again work trumped night shoot! Atleast got to play around with it some more was able to see a power line pole about 500yards away on a ridge above me. I really want to get out to a known distance range with some steel and get some more scientific data on the range of my set-up. (atleast in whatever the ambient conditions are like when I am out there)

Re: D-930 clip on

That's not a good place for your light being left handed. Why don't you have it on a rail on the right side on the rearward set of screw holes so you can operate it with your non firing hand? Just my .02

Re: D-930 clip on

That is the plan, My screws are not long enough to reach through the extra rail I have and the shroud and still thread into the chassis. I need to pick up some new hardware so I can mount it over there, I put it on that side cause it hits on the throw lever for the bi-pod, I could've reversed bi-pod, but I just wanted to get it on so I could check it out and like you mentioned I really want it on the side not on the bottom, just need some new hardware to mount the rail.

Re: D-930 clip on

That set up is bad ass!

A little more fine tuning, IR placement and your setup should work great to 500 and beyond.

I was impressed with the video for just holding my phone by hand and recording.

Need to do that all again real soon.

Re: D-930 clip on

Like the video keep the up dates comming please, will be interested to see how it preforms around 500 yrds , slowly comming over to the dark side ,

Re: D-930 clip on

We ran it at 500 yards last night, We had three targets set up, two steel and we had a 100 yard paper target my buddy was zeroing on. When we got to 500 I couldn't see the steel targets....we forgot spray paint...I could see the paper excellent, but I could not see the rusted bullet riddled steel.

Re: D-930 clip on

I got a few new addittions to my NV gear to suppliment my D-930 (Thanks Frankie!!!) I picked up a DBAL-D2 and a hand held monocular to use for spotting. Here are a few pics of the new set-up. I have yet to get to try it out. This may or may not end up being the final set-up on the rifle, in previous tests the IR illuminator needs to be in front of the clip-on to keep from making my sight picture from "going green" I am going to try to test it out tonight just a function test and this weekend we are heading up to check some trail cameras and do some yote hunting. Looking forward to getting out there.

Gonna run the Torch with my hand held for now and eventually get a helmet to mount the torch and monocular to. Should be a nice little set up.

Re: D-930 clip on

So overall the D-930 is GTG? Seems like a great price/performance day/night system. Gonna have to get a youtube channel hognuts, would be some good videos of the hunts.

I have been very happy with the unit so far, I will have to look into the youtube thing. I will post up some pics as soon as I get my first kill with it. I am going to busy hunting deer and elk coming up soon and will be concentrating on predator hunting November-February. We have made a few trips out calling to see what is out and about, but bobcat season runs November-February and the temps will drop a bit so the furs may be worth something. I put out a trail camera and will be putting out a few more once I pull them out of my deer/elk areas. Looking forward to a good predator season!

Re: D-930 clip on

Nice keep us posted. The more i read the thread over the more i want it.

Re: D-930 clip on

I just ordered an adapter for my Iphone to take pics and videos, I will keep you posted if it works worth a damn!
