I am looking for a decent, not great, spotter for use up to 400-500yds max. Resolving .30cal holes at 300 and under would be desirable. But I'm not looking to spend huge amounts of dollars on a spotting scope in general - I use them for load workup, but not really for day-to-day shooting. These are the ones that have caught my eye so far (but I am willing to entertain suggestions):

Konus 20-60x100:

Vortex Nomad 20-60x60:

Leupold 20-60x80 SX1 Ventana:

Bushnell Legend 20-60x80 (don't really want to spend this much):

Any help would be appreciated, I don't know nearly as much about spotters as I do about riflescopes. Thanks.

I been thinking about getting the Redfield Rampage 20-60x80 Angled Spotting Scope. Leupold took over Redfield about 2 years ago.

I called Leupold today and they said it was as good of quality of the Leupold 20-60x80 SX1 Ventana they produce but at a cheaper cost.

get the best spotting scope you can afford, glass is everything in a spotting scope

Of those options I would go with the Konus or the Bushnell Legend with the ED glass.

I have used the Bushnell out to 300 yards with a .223. As long as the temperatures are not as high as we have seen in the past few weeks you should have no problem seeing .30 cal. holes at 300 yards.

As for the Konus, check out our customer reviews. It has worked well for a number of shooters!
