I took my Remington 700 SPS Tactical out for the first time in over a year today and moseyed up to Hap Baker from Montgomery County and man am I glad I did. Started off at 100 yards to verify zero and got a nice .5MOA group and decided to stretch it out to 200 yards. I shot a few nice MOA groups and some really tight groups but each with a flyer so I decided to buckle down and iron out the kinks in my form. I slowed way down and concentrated on the basics.....slow steady breathing, good position behind the rifle, and trigger control. I was thus rewarded with this gem of a 3 shot group at 200 yards. I'm down to 500 rounds of FGMM 168gr and 500 FGMM 175gr ammo so I need to stock up again and start getting down to Quantico for their informal matches if I can keep shooting like this.

nice man. Im from MD and have a 700 too... hows hap baker? Im not far from there but Ive heard a few horror stories from some people about the range officers

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

Its a nice range, goes out to 200 yards which is really nice and really the only downside to it is shooting through bench boxes because of asshats who built their houses near the range and complained about the noise.....YOU BUILT IT NEXT TO A SHOOTING RANGE!!!!! The range officers can be a bit dickish, but only if you do dickhead things like a guy today after a ceasefire was called starting going downrange before we had gotten the range "Cleared" so the RO yelled at him to get his ass back. But he let the guy stay and just told him he needed to wait for the all clear to go downrange. Bottom line is, be courteous and safe and you will have a good time. I'm going back next week so maybe we could meet up and compare 700s man, always nice to put faces to screenames.

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

It is funny how people always think that the range officers are dicks, because those people do STUPID SHIT!!!

Great Shooting, looks like you got her dialed in!

Good Luck!!

Here's my SPSS, TOP, it shoots very well also. H-S stock, TPS rings and 20moa base, Jewell trigger, Burris 6-24 Signature.

3 shot group? Really? Come on man, don't be afraid of those 2 little extra rounds.

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

Here is my baby....Thinking of doing a krylon job on her, maybe a multicam or sponge camo multicam.

As to the 5 shot group, I honestly usually shoot them but I promised my buddy who drove us the 25 miles to the range some trigger time and so I figured I would stop right there so he could get some trigger time

Excellent shooting! I had a Rem 700 SPS in 300 win that I sold to my dad - he loves it. It's a real shooter too.

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

Oh yeah, you gotta shoot 5 shot groups with heavy rifles, I usually shoot at 300yds and you should see some of the 3 shot groups I get from a 5 shot group, lol.
This is from my 6mmRem, note the first 3 shots on the right, then a bit of wind pulled the others a bit left, though that way left flier was me, called it left.

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

Any plans to replace the trigger, or have you already?

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

I have the stock X-Mark Pro trigger in it right now and it is around 5 pounds but I am looking at a Jewell trigger and maybe a chasis for my next purchases.

Re: Shot My Best 200 Yard Group Today!!!

Nice group.

If you want some advice... Ditch the 168's and stick with the 175's. Especially if you're gonna be shooting past 600.
