Changing the question.

I was able to get to a gun shop who luckily had an extra 700 rail and they cut it so it would fit. I now had enough clearance to put the scope on, but not for my front cap.

Does anyone think putting AR15 style 2 piece risers would be OK? They told me no because I wanted the scope as close to the bore as possible. Why? Wouldn't it also make it easier for me to reach out to longer distances if my scope runs out of adjustment (because of the added height.)

Re: Scope Mount

Even if it means waiting I'd do what it takes to get exactly what you want/will work correctly.

If it were me and I had a new rifle I couldnt shoot the disappointment you find yourself in would be crushing and I'd go into a mode where I threw money at the problem to fix it. Problem is most of the time I force the quick fix I buy crap and in the end not only have to add the screw up time to the initial wait but end up waiting the original wait as well.

Where do you shoot in MA? I know Reading offers more than 300, anyplace else?

Re: Scope Mount

You want a solid base and ring set up. Don't jerry rig anything. Wait for a set up that will work.

Thanks for the advice guys. I shoot at Harvard and Reading. Harvard has a 300, Reading goes out to 600.

I'm calling around for rail risers. That should be a good temporary fix.

The height of the rings wont help with gaining elevation adjustment unless their is someway to introduce cant. I dont know what rings allow adjustability - cant is either built in or its not.

You can do whatever you need to do to get running but it sounds like it might be getting messier than my anal retentive nature would allow.

Re: Scope Mount

I have a schmidt and bender 3-12 x 50 L3 and I'm thinking of putting it on new LMT 5.56 I have coming. Will Larue mounts work and should I get angle mount?
