Gunsmithing texture under cerakote?

I want to add some texture under a cerakote paint job. I have used duracoat in the past through a large orifice (1.8mm) gun at low pressure and it comes out great. The question is whether or not there would be issues with heat cure cerakote on top of that.

The other option might be to add more hardener than recommended to cerakote to make it thicker and use that to texture. I know that if you put heat cure on too thick, it will bubble up, so this might not be a good option.

Any ideas?

Re: texture under cerakote?

Polane T / Duracoat for the texture and air cure cerakote as the main color. You could also use the thermal cure cerakote as the main color and cured at 180 for 2 hours.

Re: texture under cerakote?

Is there a minimum time between applying duracoat and cerakote? In other words, can you apply cerakote over wet duracoat or do you need to wait a day or so for the duracoat to dry a little?

Re: texture under cerakote?

Spray the duracoat and cure it in the oven, 180 for 30-45 minutes. Spray the cerakote and cure that at the same temp for 2 hours.

Re: texture under cerakote?

Be very careful curing a stock at 180*F

I had a Manners T2 stock pop at the mold lines at that temp. My temp gauge is very accurate too. The guys at Manner's confirmed and said 180 was a little too much.

I know that is what cerakote recommends, but it's too hot for stocks.

So can you disclose the temp / cure time you use on the Manner's stocks now?
