.260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

I shot 8 control groups with this ammo Monday. Couldn't set up chrono because of weather but groups are very promising.

Shooting two barrels. One is SAAMI spec chamber and one is a match chamber that I have been using for the last 8 years.

The ammo shown is pre-production. The ammo meets Gold Medal guidelines but Federal wants to re-tool the machine that they chose to run this on. Running this batch of ammo let them see what and where things needed to be tweaked on the machine prior to any large runs. The propellant, bullet and dimensional specifications are representative of what the production run will be.

Federal asked to keep the performance information filtered back to them on the initial testing. Accordingly, I will not be posting specifics on any performance unless I have permission from them to do so.

I would take this as encouraging for those waiting for this type of product. Federal has proven that they are serious about the project. I am sure that they will not ship until they have the best product they can produce.

Great to seem more options, but in this economy $2 per round, come on, really? I was hoping this ammo would let me break into the 260 Rem. These bullet prices are getting like fuel prices to expensive to feed em. I'll stick with the .308 win

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Cabelas normal retail on the 308 gold medal is $35/box, this, at near the same price, would be as expected...

Maybe those same people selling the 308 @ $20/box will have the 260 @ a discount...

But I'd imagine you gotta give it a little time, this is still being finalized and put into production, but you need to buy it, I have a brother that works there and I get ammo for cheap.

I'd hate to see this discontinued, so buy it.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

If they price the .260 Gold Medal Match near the price of the 6.5 Creedmoor ammo by Hornady, I think they will sell a bunch of it.

One problem I see, is that a majority of people that shoot the .260 reload. The reason why the 6.5 Creedmoor has taken off, is because many shooters wanted a .260 but didn't want to mess with reloading.

If they can price their ammo at the same price of the Creedmoor and make it readily available, I think you will see a number of new shooters buying .260 instead of the 6.5 Creedmoor.

If they price it near $2 a round, I don't think they will be offering it for long as the demand just will not be there at that price.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

anybody seen this for sale?

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

finbox, please go back and read the entire thread.......

You will not see this for sale yet.
It has been officially introduced as part of their line for 2012. They have finished all load developement and specifications.

They are not happy with the speed that the machine has to be run at to produce this round within the GoldMedal performance criteria. They are now working on necessary refits and tweaks to the machine to allow both production speed and high quality finished product.

Also, it would seem that many have already decided what this product will sell for and what the price options will be. I may be wrong but I didn't think Federal and/or it's distributors have published pricing info to base any type of guess regarding potential street price.

Federal is aware of the competition and I think will price appropriately. Whether it is .308Win, .223Rem, .300Win Mag or .260Rem, you will always be able to beat factory production pricing with reloaded and certain custom reloaded ammo. There is a niche for both.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Here the price of competing Ammo. Based on these prices I doubt we will see the new federal stuff sell for as low as $25 a box (I hope I'm wrong). For what it is worth, I tried the 139 gr and 142 gr awhile back and got good results - and the price is pretty fair.

HSM 123gr Match $30.57

HSM 130 gr Berger VLD $34.42

HSM 142 gr BTHP Match $27.47

Black Hills 139gr Lapua HP $41.99

Cor-Bon 123gr Scenar Match $37.99

Corbon 139gr Scenar Match $37.99

Cor-bon 142 gr HPBT Match $37.99

Southwest ammo 142 gr SMK $26.99 with Lapua brass $39.97

Southwest ammo 139 gr Scenar $28.49 with Lapua brass $40.84

Southwest Ammo 123 gr Scenar $30.99 with Lapua brass $41.97

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

thanks for the update

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

And I bought 6.5 Creed, 200 rounds at $22 a box...

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Looks like ill be buying Corbon and SW until the FGMM is released. Hopefully its before the end of the year.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Grafs has it in stock, $37.99/box. Really disappointing.

Ouch just saw that, damn was hoping it would be inline with the Hornady 6.5 CM prices.

Almost makes me wanna overcharge and sabotage my own barrel so I can rebarrel back to 308. These 6.5s are too damn expensive.

For what it is worth, 175 gr smk FGMM in 0.308 was also about the same price. I don't know why so high ...

On the other hand, anyone starting out in reloading 260 rem and wanted to build up a stash Lapua brass might look to the SW ammo. I think new lapua brass in 260 is about $1/case new. You can think of it as buying new brass and paying an extra $1/rnd for it being preloaded at match grade. Afterwards you've got some kick-ass brass that will be good for many reloads.

I do, I'm just venting frustration at the outrageous prices.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

I will definately stick to reloading for that price... I thought reloading for $1 a round would be expensive, but my reloads shoot better than .5 MOA and I LOADED THEM!!! Even better reason...

Good Luck!!!

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

I can still get 6.5 Creedmoor factory 140 gr loads at $23 a box if it makes you 260 guys feel any better

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Other than the crazy wait time i have been happy with SW ammo. The lapua brass stuff is nice. Got 500 on the way in the win brass. Thats what i use in my handloads. Hope it shoots as good. Hope the gmm shoots as good. I will buy a case or two for comparison.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

I have Half a case of HSM. It was a huge motivation for me to start reloading. It seemed like garbage to me. Southwest is better in my experience. But it would not be hard for Federal to produce a superior round.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Has anyone actually done a range report with this ammo??

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Those rounds look like they came from the version 1.0.

The rest of us will get 2.0 which I hear has 1/4th the SD of the boxes shown above, and far better run out and consistent seating depth.

calling4life, if you'd like me to pull the bullets on all of those rounds drop me a PM

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Tagged for when my 260 is finished...it'll be a while longer...

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

If you reload, then I think the .260 Rem has potential for you. But if you don't, I would not wait around for Remington to get their act together. I really think the boat left the dock some time ago and Remington stood on the shore and watched the boat sail away. Hornady jumped in to support the 6.5 Creedmoor and has provided a fantastic factory loading (a couple actually, either 120 or 140 AMAX) that can be readily obtained at near .308 ammo prices.

Folks waiting for factory .260 Rem match quality ammo could still be waiting for a while, and may not be happy if the price and performance cannot compete with what Hornady has been providing for some time now with 6.5CM ammo.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

its new, hot and everyone wants it so people will pay it. Look at the WSM prices and people love them

Copper Creek & Southwest Ammo have the same basic recipe for $30/box...while I know Midway isn't the cheapest when it comes to ammo I'm not certain the FGMM name is worth a 25% premium.

Prices are similar at Grafs and across the board from what I've seen. It's a shame. Federal shoulda took a page from Hornady's book; what's the one thing that constantly comes up in 260 vs 6.5CM debates? Factory-loaded match ammo at a reasonable price. It's helped keep the cartridge relevant and if Federal really wanted to gain a foothold in the 6.5 market they woulda dropped the price on this comparable to HDY.

Missed opportunity, IMO.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

That's expected to some degree Bearjew. New products rarely hit the market at the same price at which they eventually stabilize.

It's a great caliber and I'm glad to see another option for it show up. I only hope brass consistency is better than what they do with .308's.

Re: .260 Rem Match ammo from Federal.

Does anybody know what kind of powder Federal is using in their .260 Gold Medal Match ammo?

Any updates? Seems Federal is shooting themselves in the foot with their pricing, as it seems the Creedmoor has been leading new builds from what I gather.
