Wwhat's your "ideal" hunting pack for, say deer and elk?

Mine would be an Eberlestock Dragonfly pack, a camoed military model. I like it because it has enough space for not only my scoped rifle in its vertical scabbard but also enough room for gear for a possible forced overnight bivouac.

Currently I have a DIY modified Camelbak Commander for backcountry skiing and hunting. It can carry my rifle but, unlike the Dragonfly, I'd have to remove the pack to get the rifle off.

Re: Your Hunting Pack?

This one as worked really well the last couple years - its the older version of the Mystery Ranch Dragon Slayer.

Re: Your Hunting Pack?

I use a Mystery Ranch NICE frame and swap bags based on need. More often than not I'm running the Crew Cab bag.

Re: Your Hunting Pack?

Mine is a GS2 in dry earth. Just big enough for my day gear with enough room for a longer trip if required.

Re: Your Hunting Pack?

Eberlestock blue widow. Most of their hunting packs will fit your needs, and the spike camp duffel really expands the pack if you haul lots of gear.
You just need to figure out which fits your needs best. I did not like the idea of the scabbard between me and the weight of quarters and gear so I went with the BW. I typically do 1-3 day mountain hunts and it is plenty big for gear and 60-100 lbs of meat on the way out.

Re: Your Hunting Pack?

I dont really care, as long as it has straps and is packed with enough TP to make a juvenile delinquent blush. Can never have enough TP. and also, +1 on the Eberlestock
