I originally built my rifle to shoot 115 DTACS with a 28 inch 1-7.5 twist barrel but I want to try the Berger 105s.

With the faster twist rate how fast can I realistically push the 105s? Will I have any problems with them?

Chambered in .243 Win, anyone got a load they would suggest for the 105's?

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

I just got 200 of the hybrids yesterday, will load some up tonight as well. I shot the 115dtacs for a while, the hornady 105's shot good, ill post up a range report tomorrow on the hybrids.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

You won't have any problems. For as long as they are a 7.5 is probably the best twist rate.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

They will run just fine out of a 1/7.5 at over 3000fps, at least out of my 6xc. However, I do prefer the 1/8 twist for them.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

I just ordered 500 of them too for my 6mmSLR this morning. I'd start with H4350 in that 243.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

I run the 105 hybrids in a 6mm Dasher with a 1/7.75 Brux and push them to 3070 fps and have never had a bullet failure. In load development I pushed them somewhat faster but still no failure.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

I shot some groups this morning, 100yds, 2 groups, i pulled my cold bore shot, but the 2nd group was .430moa. 200yd group was .389, 300yd group was .484moa and my 500yd group(i shot two with two different primers) wolf primers - .702moa and cci primers .614moa. The 500yd shots were probably me, i dont see a difference in the primers, but i didnt chrono anything either.

All said and done, I'd like to shoot these in a Fclass match and one of our local precision rifle matches, but they seem to do the exact thing the hornady 105bthp's do initially.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

i was pushing the 105 Hybrids at 3150 out of my 243AI with a 30 inch 1-7.5 twist melonited Benchmark barrel. no signs of pressure at all but powder started to crunch a bit during seating, accuracy was fantastic at 600 yds but carbon fouling was horrible and needed frequent cleanings.
they were seated .080 off the lands if that helps.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

Interesting......what would cause them to foul more so than other offerings?

Using H4350 does anyone have a suggested starting point for load development?

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

Lofty,

for a 243? Hodgdon suggests 35.0g to 37.5, but you can go a little higher. Work your way up and find your pressure and accuracy.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

Might want to play with some some H1000, it'll give you a bit better barrel life also. for a 105g bullet - H1000 is 43.0g-46.0C. I'm shooting 1.4g over max in a 6slr which is a grain less capacity then a straight 243.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

My barrel is a 1:8 32" .237 5R Kreiger. I run 45.5gr of N160 with them Moly coated. 1:8 works perfectly any faster is over kill. I come up 20.5 MOA from 100 for 1000yds. They are running somewhere between 3250 and 3300fps. They shoot great. First time rifle was shot was actually by my girl friend and she shot a 187-6X in her first match behind the rifle and only 3rd F class match overall.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I've got 500 DTACs and Bergers coming and I'm gonna work them up side by side to see which one my rifle like the most.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

Resurrecting this as I'm about to change from my 115's to the 105 hybrids in my .243, whos using H4350 and what load is workin out good for you. Thanks.

Re: 105 Berger hybrid question.

I run the Dtacs in my 26" .243, but I have a 22" 243 that will be done soon and im going to try the 105 hybrids. I use 44gr of H4831SC in the 26" rifle. Ill probably try H4350 in the 22".
