Prepping New Lapua Brass?

I have a box of 100 .308 of which a representative sample seems very consistent in head space ( 0.002" +/- 0.0005" less than the measured rifle head space), and case length (2.007" +/- 0.0005"), the primer holes are not burred or flapped and the mouth even seems to have a slight inside chamfer. How much case prep is necessary for new Lapua brass. I am loading for accuracy with a Ruger 77, 24" heavy barrel, glass bedded, 6-20x40 Leupold. It was originally configured by the previous owner for silhouette, but I fancy using it for 200-300 yard deer.

Re: Prepping New Lapua Brass?

being Lapua, the only really necessary step, for me, is to uniform the primer pockets, without deburring the inside flash holes etc._after that,I go with a body only die, setted at +.001"of the maximum headspace value measured among the 100pcs.batch_ after that I lightly size the necks, without any ball exp.,anyway_ my last step is a mandrel exp.die_ I try if they chamber ok , and I start to reload_sometime it works_sometime_

Re: Prepping New Lapua Brass?

What about neck chamfer?

Re: Prepping New Lapua Brass?

I prep Lapua brass just like any other. The extra steps are just the way and reason that I load.Lots of the steps only need doing once,so the time invested is not a big deal to me.I can't really prove that it makes more accurate ammo, its just my way.New Lapua is miles better than any other factory before doing anything to it.Its your choice, Lightman

Re: Prepping New Lapua Brass?

For the use you mentioned I can't see any reason to spend the time doing anything to the brass besides priming and loading it. You've already proven to yourself how consistent it is.

Re: Prepping New Lapua Brass?

Seriously,on my mind the main reason for any prepping work is because I try any trick to obtain the best from what I shoot ( Lapua pampering is part of it)_if this happens or not,it's another matter_If I know to have tried at my best, that's enough:squeezin'the trigger is only the last act of the show_Best Regards

Re: Prepping New Lapua Brass?

Some of the best groups I've shot with my rifle have been with rounds loaded straight out of the box.

Just load and go.
