Rifle Scopes Standard barrel ring height help

I'm mounting a 44mm objective scope to a Rem 700 that has a standard (non-bull) barrel. I tried UTG LE Grade medium rings and they left the scope nearly 3/4 of an inch above the barrel. I looked up the specs on the low rings and they are only .2 inches lower, won't that still leave my scope too high above my barrel?

I have standard Weaver bases on the rifle right now.

Here's a pic for reference-

"C" for the medium rings is 15mm / .59 inches. Is that typical for a medium ring?

Thank you.

Re: Standard barrel ring height help

Best to ignore the "Medium", "Low", or "High" and just look at the numerical measurements. Stack pennies on your rail and rest your scope on the pennies. Get the height right, measure it, and get rings to match.

I love this method. Never thought about it and saw it first here on the Hide. Forget the math and the guessing. Just measure.

Re: Standard barrel ring height help

Most ring companies give you the height of the rings from base to the center of the tube. Some are base to bottom of tube. You need to watch that and add half the tube size to the latter.

For a 44mm on that contour barrel the standard .82", from base to center of tube, low rings will work. You can always go mediums as well as they are around .87" just to make sure you have room for the scope caps.

Here's a ring height calculator.

Re: Standard barrel ring height help

Badger "std" rings are .823" base to center of the tube. With a 20 MOA rail those work very well for mounting a scope with a 50mm objective (Mk4 6.5-20 x 50). And there is enough clearence for the Butler Creek caps.
