Ran my AR without buffer weights, amazinglly fast

NOTE: I removed the internal weights from the inside of the buffer and used the hollow empty buffer in my gun.

I wouldn't use this in combat, and I kept my old parts, but for target or "event" shooting this gun is fast and smooth.

This is only my third time to the range and I have increased in speed exponentially.

I shot the bcg at 120 fps and I see no BC bounce. Also during an accidental bumpfire the gun still cycled so the bolt must not be bouncing. Well enough talk here is the video...

You ran it with no buffer? How does that work?

I have to say that is one smooth shooting setup.

Can you elaborate on what kind of rifle you have? Thanks.

If you didn't adjust down the gas system, pull your bolt carrier group apart and see how bad your firing pin retaining pin is beaten up.

Otherwise if you aren't having extraction problems, rock it until it breaks.

NO! DO NOT DO THAT!

I ran the stock buffer without the internal weights. Stock buffer weighed 3oz. I removed the roll pin, removed 2.7oz weights, reinstalled roll pin and plastic top. Buffer now weighs .3oz not 3oz.

Setup

Raineer UM 16" barrel
JP Low mass carrier
Syrac adj gas block .750
LMT bolt
CS Flatwire spring (will not run without this spring)
Empty buffer weight
Geislee 3 gun dynamic trigger
Mega lower
Vltor upper
Raineer ambi charge handle[color:#FF0000][/color]

I did adjust the gas down all the way.

Very wild. I've never seen an AR done that way! Looks great from the video, as long as you're comfortable with it.

Interesting!

Just be careful and keep a watchful eye out for signs of any unusual wear/tear on your upper receiver, BCG, FCG, hammer/trigger pins, etc., etc. Even with the gas turned way down, while the rifle may seemingly function without missing a beat, it is highly possible that you will see premature wear/tear on various components.

I cleaned her when I got home and gave it a good look. No signs of wear of even rubbing. Looks GTG!

Re: Ran my AR without buffer weights, amazinglly fast

Is there a way for you to slow down the vid? That's the only way your going to see if the BC bounces. I don't think the naked eye is going to catch it.
I see your bumpfire went smooth, but how many time have you done that? Next time might not go so smooth.

What's the recoil like now?

If it runs...run it hard. looks pretty slick.

Re: Ran my AR without buffer weights, amazinglly fast

How many rounds did you put through it like that? Did you start with a clean rifle? It sounds like you've lightened everything to a point where the only thing pushing the bolt into battery and locking the bolt is the spring.

It just kind of reminds me of the days when I used to shoot USPSA with a hot rodded .38 super with a huge comp, super light slide and ridiculously light recoil spring. It ran like a bat out of hell, until it got dirty and there just wasn't enough mass there to push through the crud and keep it running.

If it's a gaming gun and you're going to clean it after every practice and match or between stages, you may have stumbled on something cool. If it isn't a gaming gun, I'd make sure that there won't be any functional problems once it gets good and dirty.

It sure does look like it was running pretty slick though.

A little more tinkering an more springs, you might get to M-231 speed. I did an old 16 to 231 specs long ago, an it ran one of my Beta's dry in less than 5 seconds. Had it outrun some after market 30rds mags, but the Beta's never missed a beat.
Changed the 20" barreled upper to a 11.5" and trimmed some gas via the loads, hell of a street or room sweeper.

A Guy comes to KCR with a post 231 every once and a while, he is a walking book on them. Great bullet hose with a Beta on F/A but, will eat barrels fairly fast, if you like to enjoy it too much.
