I've got a big ammo trade going, & i may throw the scope & mount in as a bonus. I would prefer an ler , with a deflector anyway. </div></div>

Thats not the distance were talking about, the distance were talking about is center of scope to comb, not the reciever. It might just be me but it looks to be about 4 inches to the commb, maybe a bit more, which is pretty high. A proper cheek weld is necessary to shoot a rifle accurately, without it, it can be difficult to get a proper sight picture and maintain it.

And I'm with lonewolf, whats an ler?

OP started at MN forum, Gun and Game website. They have different style there, less technical but more emotional, like who got the highest stage of "mosinitis" and "Oh, wow, congratulations on your amazing purchase and getting such a strong mosinitis.." Somehow, he believes that SH is like G&G, which is a mistake.
_____________________________________________________________
gsbuickman,I know you're excited about your stuff, but you got to understand that the ratio of professional people on SH relative to G&G is extremely disproportional. SH repsents a lot of manufacturers, dealers, competion shooters and simply knowledgable people. So, my friendly advice is for you to talk less about your trades and more about technical aspects, otherwise, SH guys, let's say, will likely get really irritated and may show it w/o hesitation...

Yep, sometimes people complicate things, and I object to this also. That's why I drink vodka with no juice, rocks or straws - just 12 simple straight shots go in, and I go out. Very simple, uncomplicated and clear to me...kind of. You lucky dog, you were smart enough to smell that possible outcome before you got into it...

paint it toxic green with a few biohazard symbols and you are ready for the zombie apocalypse. ar15.com would be a more suitable place to discuss this amazing weapon.

Borris, I think Antarctica and South America may be the only continents I have not passed out drunk on.

I now take Clint Eastwood's advice. "A man has got to know his limitations."

Re: My nice lil' SKS

Since everyone is jumping on the wrong bandwagon, here's your comb info. This is a b-square, see thru scope mount, & simmons scope designed especially the sks.

From the center of the scope , to the comb, without my adjustable comb cheek rest, is 3 1/8". With my cheek rest on, thats reduced to 2". When i lay down on the rifle, i am in direct line with the iron sight's, as i should be. That's at high cheekweld.

Now when i slide my adjustable comb cheekrest/ shell holder on the stock, i lay down on the rifle & i am right inline with the scope. But it negates the use of the iron sights.

I really like iron sights, for close targets, 100 yds +-. But i also like a scope for targets 100 - 1000 yards out, give or take.

Depending on which range, lane or canyon i am at, i like being able to switch from irons to scope when needed. This scope mount, & my cheekrest give me both options.

I hope this is technical enough for you all.

Re: My nice lil' SKS

How about I put it as non-technical as I can.

Unless you have a face like Mr. Ed, there is no way you are getting a proper cheekweld looking through that scope. You would need about a 1-2" riser on your comb to even get close.

You may think you are doing it right....but many do until they get proper instruction.

Then again....what do I know?

GSBuickman:

Not sure if you came here for advice, or to regale us with your incredible knowledge of vintage firearms. But so far, you have done little more than embarrass yourself with a bunch of guns that are essentially a joke.

More than a few of us have been kind in responding to your posts about an Enfield that is basically a turd with a trigger; your plastic 1000 yd SKS and your minty Swiss rifle that you must have traded for the ribbon they gave you for graduating, what, the 10th grade?

Now you are regaling us with how you love your scope (that was mounted 90 degrees off) for 1000 yard shots with the SKS, but need to keep that Collar-Bone-Weld mount height correct for iron sight shots... With a sooper-dooper B-Square mount that the rest of us would not put on a Red Ryder?

On this forum, where guys like LoneWolf have BTDT in ways that most of us can only dream about, you have an opportunity to get instruction and advice at a world class level. Yet when people take the time to respond to your posts, you are acting like a twerp with your smart-assed responses and total lack of appreciation for the quality of the advice you are getting.

What did you want... people to look at your POS rifles and tell you that they are world class collectors items? That your $89 Enfield sporter (that's what they cost) belongs in the NRA Museum? Should we give you a ribbon and a cupcake for showing up on the 'Hide with something you traded for an RC car???? Really?

That said, it is obvious that you have an interest in, and perhaps a passion for, the same rifles as many of us here. Instead of making moronic responses about technical prowess (to people who have forgotten more about precision shooting than most of us will ever know), listen.

Instead of buying and posting pictures of rifles that have the rest of us laughing our butts off at your idiocy for buying them... And then describing them in glowing terms as minty collectors items... ask some questions up front. Buy some books. Count to 10 before hitting Submit button. Listen to good advice instead of snapping back half-baked responses and pissing off the people who genuinely are dedicated to helping you.

Learn and show your progression as a collector. We all want to welcome you and hope you will grow into a first rate enthusiast and a world-class collector. But don't make people regret the time they spend trying to help you. And if that's too much, there are some nice Airsoft forums out there where any owner of a REAL firearm will be treated like a god. You could hang there.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Re: My nice lil' SKS

Sorry, i clarified my measurements. I am not used to being technically proficient . I may be a cyborg with all the hardware in my leg, but i am not a technical drone.

Re: My nice lil' SKS

While I have some old rifles myself (a sporterized mauser and and sks as well) I can tell you that they are not really anything to be proud of. Sure, they go bang and are fun to shoot, but they are inaccurate as hell. I have my sks with a scope mount as well, a cheap choate scope mount and a BSA 4x scope, it's a similar setup and it is way to high to shoot accurately and comfortably. I rarely shoot my sks now, once you get into the precision rifle game stuff like that just doesn't amuse me and doesn't entertain me much anymore.

And a word of advice, don't carry yourself as being smarter or more knowledgable of a shooter than everyone here, you won't last long if you do. I don't think of myself as an expert shooter, but I can assure you that a lot of people who commented here are, and you would be wise to listen to them instead of being disrespectful.

BTW, you can't shoot an sks to 1000yds, or a lot of vintage military rifles for that matter.

Re: My nice lil' SKS

The only good spot for that gun is on a gun rack in the back of your Buick. I'm sure you do shoot a thousand yards across canyons but the other side of the canyon doesn't count buddy. Take yours Sks back to the swap meat and tell em you want your r/c car back cause I have a feeling your the type of person who shouldent even own a firearm better yet take it to the gun store who told you it's worth 1000 dollars and give them there chance to buy it. Let us know how that goes.

Re: My nice lil' SKS

I know the last post was awhile ago but man some of the comments...AWESOME...Rocky Dennis...HAHAHA I about shot Mt. Dew out my nose!!! I re-read the OPs initial post on this thread and the next thing I was waiting to see in the list of "Features" was "a compas in the stock"(A Christmas Story) hahaha.

OP one thing Ive noticed so far on SH no matter how smart you think you are you will not be able to prove these guys wrong! Why...because they know their shit!!!
