Maggie’s RIP little Spunky

I lost my best friend this past Saturday. To all that had pleasure of meeting him they knew what kind of attitude he had. He was known for being a typical Boston Terrier. He had the balls of a Rhino and seemed to attack or hump anything that moved. He even humped George's Shepard once in he back yard. The Shepard didn't care for it too much but Spunky did. He really wasn't scared of anything.
He has been at my side for the past 15 years. Going to work everyday, fishing on the weekends and under my arm at night. If I even left a dirty sock on the floor he would have rather slept on that than in his bed. So here is to my partner in crime and best friend!

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry for your loss.

Seems a little unfair that our four footed pals are only with us for such a short time.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry to hear man we lost our dog Spunky 3 years ago its sucks!!

Re: RIP little Spunky

Jered- I feel your pain brother, as many of us here on the Hide have been there! I'm sure your little buddy appreciates all you provided for him over his life. I feel that I'm not far from losing one of my 4 legged buds.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry for your loss, it's always rough. He'll be waiting for you at the Pearly Gates.

All I can say is that when you decide to get another one, they always have a new and great personality, or at least that is my experience. Your recently departed one looks like he was a great pet and companion, and at least you got to take yours to work with you, so you got to spend so much more time with yours and that is a great thing to be able to do. So many of us dawg lovers have to leave ours at home during the workday. My current little buddy just turned 7 years old in June and is now starting to gray araound the muzzle. I should still have many years left with him but it bothers me that he is he is starting to show his age now.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry to hear about the loss of your bud.

I have always thought of this everytime I have lost one of my beloved pets.

The Rainbow Bridge
inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry to hear about it.

I totally sympathize. Exactly a week ago, my better half left a window open and our cat, Peachy, escaped. He has not been seen since. Indoor only cat. 2 years old. Never seen the outside.

Spent hours searching and calling. Set up scents. Worked the roads with lights. Been through the woods out to a wide radius. Ads, posters, robo-calls. Nothing beyond one 'maybe' sighting. He'es gone in the deep woods. Doubt I'll ever see him again. Doubt he'll make it past December up here.

Sorry, Jared. Really sincerely, to hear about Spunky. I sympathize right now like you can't believe.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry to hear that man. That last picture had me cracking up with the blower, looked like an awesome dog.

Re: RIP little Spunky

I'm sorry to hear this, also. Not looking forward to 'those' days around here. Enjoying each and every day they are here with us, is the key.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Hate to hear about that. I have a Jack Russell that I`ve had for 7yrs. She can run like a racehorse. She thinks she is bigger than she really is, aint scared of nothing. We get close to our dog friends. Going to hate when she`s gone.

It didn't matter what it was, chainsaw, weed eater, blower........if it made noise he wanted to kill it. You should see what he used to do to any unlucky fish that hit the bottom of the boat. Well except for the big flathead catfish. He just sat there and licked them to death. The next day he would be so crusted over with fish slime it was ridiculous. You just couldn't keep him out of anything. Typical. I doubt I'll ever have another dog as smart as he was but I hope so.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry to hear this. I like dogs better than most of the people I know.

The picture with the chewed up RC toy cracked me up. The look is one of "it is your fault, you knew I would break it".

Re: RIP little Spunky

Hes chillin in dog heaven. Prob. Snackin on some bloody hindquarters with my 3 plott's. My doberman is as much a member of our family as my kid. Just meet a new friend and carry on. Cant wait to see new pup next time i come by!

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry for your loss man. We had to put our Boston down about a year and a half ago after 12 years of companionship. Sounds like she was a lot like Spunky, we had a vacuum that probably weighed upwards of 20 lbs, and when we started running it she would chase it around, and bite and pick it up. Crazy dogs!

Re: RIP little Spunky

What a great little guy. Sorry for your loss.

Re: RIP little Spunky

My condolences friend. I am cherishing every day with a 13 year old rescue dog, I have been blessed by more good dogs then I ever deserved but this little guy is almost human and my best friend. I am one who firmly believes all dogs go to heaven. I am a miserable old sinner who hopes to join a lot of old friends one day.

Re: RIP little Spunky

I empathize with your loss. Nothing heals the broken heart from losing a good freind like that, than by finding a new freind from your local animal shelter.

I think I got something in my eye...

It's never easy, but it's always worth it.

Re: RIP little Spunky

It never gets easier, Keith & I have lost a few whial growing up. I have been watching my old man Tucker get slower the last year or so. He is the best dog I have ever had, very loyal and loving. He has been my mountain biking, running & hiking partner for several years but as of the last year I cant bring my self to bring along. He has the determiniation to keep going but after he passes out, and the following day is rough on him. We have been to the top of some of the roughest peaks Maine has to offer in the dead of winter with 3-5 feet of snow, ice on the trails so bad you take 1 step forward and slide back 2, and very low temps. I have had to pull him out of snow covered holes on more than one occasion. We have came face to face with a mountain lion on the side of a cliff. I got lucky and he did not bark so the cat walked away, I think he knew we were in deep shit! He is a good friend, so I know where you are right now, its going to be a sad day for me when Tucker passes. My sympathy.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Spunky was the one and ONLY dog that deserved it's name.
He was truly amazing and extremely smart!

How smart?

Well, we were watching a hunting show on a big screen and he was steadily eyeing the buck on the screen, then the buck went off the screen on the right side as the camera did not follow it, Spunky went to the right side of the tv and was intensely looking for that buck.

Never would have believed a dog to comprehend (and respond) what it saw on tv.

He was human reincarnated, and his farts could prove it!

Re: RIP little Spunky

Watching hunting shows was certainly a challenge. I'll never forget him taking the TV off of the stand when he saw a lion on National Geographic.
If you ever told him to "get the buck deer" he would climb the walls to try and get it without you acknowledging where the animal was. He could definitely tell animals apart simply by their name.

Guys I appreciate all of your kind words. It means a lot to me. I'm going to let this post go for now and get myself back into go mode.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry for your loss JJoplin. Its always tough when your best friend crosses over to the other side.

Heaven is the place where all the dogs you've ever loved come to greet you.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Jered, very sorry to hear of you're loss! I am teary eyed thinking about the pets I've had over the years, and the never-ending pain of losing them. We currently have a dog and three cats, all rescue animals. They are my best friends and I dread losing them. I'm in agreement with the other folks that all pets go to heaven and we will be with them again, and permanently, when we pass on.

May Spunky Rest In Peace!

Re: RIP little Spunky

It is one of the hardest things that I have had happen to me

as time passes you'll remember all he did for you and he will be included in your stories

Just remember he loved you more than is possible to put into words and that is what is special about the two of you.

having had a friend like those is one of the best gifts that god gives us, that's why it hurts more than anything when they pass.

Keep your chin up and live as he would want you to

Re: RIP little Spunky

I'm sorry for your loss.... its always tough to lose a pup. Just take comfort knowing he is someplace with endless fields to romp and play in and a never ending supply of chewy toys.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Really sorry for your loss Jered...nothing makes a grown man cry without shame more than losing his best bud. RIP Spunky.

Re: RIP little Spunky

Sorry to hear this, man. It's always tough and there's not much to say that will make it better right now. He looks like he was a badass through and through.
