I recommend Robert Vestal at Vestal's Custom Guns.He is located in Abingdon Va. Phone # (276) 628-9680). He is an avid long range shooter,and is a graduate of an accredited Gunsmithing school from Colorado.I recently had him build me a 338 Lapua. I told him to build it just like he would for himself. His price was very reasonable compared to the prices I have seen for other similar guns on the hide. The first time I took it out to shoot long range I hit a 24 inch square plate at 2038 yards.Plus all the in between targets. I had been into 22 bench rest shooting for many years at 50 yards,so this was a thrill for me to say the least. Robert also treats his customers almost like a family member. He always takes time to answer questions and is never in a rush. One day I was at his shop and there were many people in there. I talked to him and left because he was very busy. When I got home he had left a message wanting to know why I left in such a hurry. I told him I knew that was how he fed his family and I did not want to keep him from his work.
My experience with this business has been more than positive,and he will get all my work from now on. One other thing I like, if he does work for you, and a problem were to arise, I am sure that it would be taken care of promptly.

I was amazed how accurate this rifle is and was very happy to hit a target that far on my first ever ELR shoot.

Thanks; I could not be happier with it. Robert and Richard did a great job with it.Glad we were all able to get together and shoot Saturday.

wcb6092, you should post pics of the target you shot at 2038yds. We need to get together and try the next targets which are 2449yds and the longest is 2600yds.

Excaliber, what kind of base did you put on that rifle to get out to that distance?

We use 40moa and 60moa bases with Premier scopes (5-25x56) with H-37 reticle.

Are they custom or where do I find one? 60moa base on the Edge might just get me to 2600.

Call Farrell, takes around 2 weeks for Rem 700 bases as it`s custom. G-force base.

I've got a savage 111 LRH 338 lapua. I've just recently got back into shooting. Maybe next spring I'll step up to a heavier barrel one. This one is 3 rounds and cool.

mdavlee, What scope you running? We have a few places to shoot. One place in Abingdon out to 1400yds, another place in Glade Springs out to 2600yds, and in Marion out to about 2800yds. Got enough elevation?

I'm planning to put a vortex pst on it. It has a millet on it right now. I don't know how much elevation I'll have total with the new scope. I might have to get a 30 nor 40 moa base to shoot over 1400.

Vortex makes good scopes. You will need a 40moa base for sure to get past 1400yds. It will take roughly 17mils (60moa) to get to 1 mile if using 300gr Bergers at 2750fps from a 100yd zero. Thats our recipe.

I'll need a 40 moa base to come play with you guys. I need to chrono some of the loads I've tried so far. I don't think I'm pushing them that fast. The best load for accuracy so far has been with 285 grain hornadys.

I have tried a few loads with the 300 gr bergers. They didm't seem to like retumbo in my gun.

Might want to try Vihtavuori N-570. It seems like Retumbo has givin me more trouble in the last year than ever before. I called Hodgdon and they said everything is the same but it seems to me that it has a faster burn rate now than before. Seems to act like H-1000. I`m pushing 300gr Bergers out of a Lapua at 2750fps with 85grs of Retumbo. It usually takes about 92grs or more to achieve that velocity in most Lapua`s. N-570 is what I switched to. Seems to act the same day after day. Retumbo changed constantly.

I am jealous now!! I want to stretch my 338 lapua out that far.

I want to see some targets too. You have a great looking rifle there Congrats.
