So I am not sure if I am the only one this bugs but I see it a lot. When people are listing the magnification on their scope they use an x between the magnifications which is not correct for example you will see Nightforce 3.5x15 which does not indicate a 3.5-15 power scope it instead indicates a 3.5 power fixed scope with a 15mm objective. remember everyone a ' - ' indicates a range of magniciations while the ' x ' in a scopes description denotes the objective lens size.

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

There's a thread or three somewhere on "what bugs you". This was one of them, plus a bunch more.

But as Thud said, life is too short.

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

You would just think that in a forum where precison is paramount we would have a little more in our communication.

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

Bugs me a bit, too. To me, it's kind of like "clips vs magazines" and "bullets vs cartridges". Yes, most of the time we know what you mean. That doesn't make it right, and occasionally it can cause an error in communication. There are worse things to worry about, but it's such a simple concept....

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

Its like when people ask if I can (meaning "will I") do something to which I am always fond of replying "I can would you like me to?"

I agree.

I struggle with grammar sometimes, but I do my best to communicate in a clear manner. It absolutely amazes me how American Citizens can completely butcher the language to the point that two people who have lived their lives in the same town have difficulty understanding each other.

Not to break your balls but if we're being consistent, it's "you're" not "your."

It doesn't really bug me, as long as I can understand the writer's intent.
What really bugs me is when somebody corrects somebody else's minor mistake, and the person doing the correcting has no concept of the rules of capitalization or punctuation.

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

If this is your biggest problem you are having a pretty good day.

Peeves make lousy pets. Much prefer a loyal dog.

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

Or when people mispronounce or type Reticule instead of Reticle.

The "5 by 25" instead of "5 to 25" bugs me too. Especially when the same person correctly refers to a 1-4 as a "1 to 4", but can't get it right on a 5-25?

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

Turrents or torrents rather than Turrets annoys me.

Quoted for truth!

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

Since reading this thread my inglish is much more better then it used to was.

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

That bugs me too. It bugs me as much as it does when my wife gets into bed and pulls the blanket up to her chin while leaving the sheets bunched up at the foot of the bed.

Don't sweat the small stuff- Nice rifle!!

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

I find it funny when they don't even post what brand the scope is! The ads on Armslist are frequently pretty bad about that. Someone will have a rifle for sale and it'll just say, "scope included, 3-9x." That's it!? That's what you're giving me to go off of!?

I shit you not, I just came across an add for a rifle...
"this is a nice gun with a 2.5x22x50mm scope..this is a super coyote gun.....475obo or trade for?"

That's it, that's the entire ad. No caliber, no model, no brand, no nothing. It's like putting an ad in AutoTrader for "WTS: Red Car. $3000" and leaving it at that!

Does it bother me? No, but it makes me feel a whole lot better about myself knowing there's people out there stupider than me

That very clearly says to me $30 Chinese scope from WalMart in $10 gunshow rings.

Those ones crack me up too. "Scope is a 4x with mil-dots with red and green illumination."

Re: Scope Pet Peeve

We all have those little things that bother us. It's part of being human. What I can't fully understand is the level of personal judgment exacted upon someone who makes a mistake. Why just the other day asking what was deemed a stupid question by a fellow Hide member qualified me, in his eyes, to be a worthless human being? You would think those lucky few who have attained such perfection would not have such a need to remind the rest of us of their unique achievement. Just buy a couple of mirrors and leave the rest of us to our miserable existence. Now, that isn't too much to ask, is it?
