I took my remington model 710 in .270 caliber and made it a free floating barrel. I shot 3 rounds from it before free floating it and 3 after the job was done. My shots was done from 100 yards and mind you I have no bipods. I used a flat concert block which was a solid rest.

Didn't know it was that much of a difference!

Re: Free floating barrel before and after results!

Years ago, before I knew much, I was shooting my Savage 10FP off a milk crate...the barrel resting on the milk crate.

I was almost unable to hit a 3" steel at 100 yards like that. Rifle/shooter were easily capable of 1" groups at 100 yards.

Re: Free floating barrel before and after results!

The barrel wasn't on the rest. My hand held the stock on the rest. And the dollar bill goes to the magazine insert.

So what is holding up the front of the action in the stock?

My thought exactly. There would be an action screw before the mag (at least, we hope lol).
