These questions are for the iPhone app ballistic (not FTE but I'm sure most of them would apply to it as well)

Ok here we go. I'm sure these questions have been ask before but I've looked on here and googled the hell out of it and can't find EXACTLY what I'm looking for.
There are several options that I'm not 100% sure what they are. I see there is simple mode that eliminates a lot of those choices but would like to use them if they will help dial in my numbers.
We will just start at the top.
BC. Click on it find your bullet and select it. Best I can tell (or the bullets I'm using) it only offers G1
Bullet diameter-got it How ever big your bullet is .264, .224, etc.
Bullet weight -got it. How much your bullet weighs
*Native drag model-this defaults to G1. If I change it to G7 it doesn't actually change the number. I guess maybe if I were wanting to use g7 I would have to manually put in the G7 BC?? (other programs I've used changes it if you select G7 vs G1)
Muzzle velocity-got it. How fast your bullet is going
Chrono distance -got it (how ever far that velocity was taken from the muzzle)
*Use drag model-not sure exactly what this option is over the previous "native drag model" question.
*Reloading data- I guess this is just to store you load. As far as I can tell its not going to change your results???
Zero range-got it. This is just were you choose "0" to be (most use 100)
Sight height-got it. This is how tall the center of your scope is in relation to your bore.
*Y-intercept- not really sure unless it has to do with cor effect??
LOS angle-this could be used if you shooting at extreme angles (up/down hill)
*Zero atmosphere-this would be used to store the weather conditions that were when you zeroed your load. I assume you don't change this unless you re zero??
*current atmosphere-this is what ever the atmosphere conditions are at that given time. Here is one area I'm unsure of. I want to use DA. I have it turned on and get two options. DA which I would put in what ever the current DA via kestrel. And MACH. I have no clue what this is but see it says enter the temp and it changes it to "MACH" for you???
Wind velocity-got it. What ever your best guess or your reading from your kestrel.
Wind direction- got it. What ever direction the wind is coming from.
Wind position-I guess you would ve to put muzzle unless you have taken or gathered a reading from another location.
*upwind velocity-not really sure what this is.
Output options are pretty straight forward and just need to be set how ever you set up dictates.
Calculations are just some different charts from the information you put it.

The options I have with a * in front are the ones I'm not sure about and would like someone to explain to me.
If you see any options I thought I knew what they were but was wrong set me straight on those as well

I would like to use DA as I think with a kestrel taking the readings from exactly were your at is going to give you the best results vs just using "what it's supposed to be that day"

Like I said before I'm sure these questions have been ask before but I looked and couldn't find them. So please to tell me to use the search or that this has been discussed before. Feel free to post a link but other than that I can do without "search this" or "this has been discussed ".
PS sorry if this isnt written in the correct manner, if there are misspelled words (not really "if" because I know there are), or if it looks like a 10 year old from KY wrote it(I was 10 once and I am from KY so be it). I don't claim to be a writer. I know I suck at it so if your not able to read it I apologize and obviously your not going to be able to help me so it's my loss.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Ballistic IPhone app questions

I guess these were really stupid questions and everyone is just blowing past them. Or maybe there really good questions and no one knows the answer. Either way the end result is the same. ;~}

Re: Ballistic IPhone app questions

I have the app and use it, I went thru the questions you have and looked at the app. I've got nothing, I just left those as they were. It's always proven to be very accurate so I guess I never worried about those settings.

Re: Ballistic IPhone app questions

Y-intercept is the height above POA at that your zero distance. So if POA = POI at 100 yards, set it for zero distance = 100 yards, y Intercept = 0.

With my 260 I zero'd 1.75" high at 100, so in my case zero dstance = 100, Y intercept = 1.75. A negative number in Y intercept would indicate POI below POA. The reload data does not change outcome of solution tables, it's just for your reference.

Zero atmosphere is exactly what you think, the atmosphere at the time you zero'd the rifle. This doesn't mean a whole lot unless you change the atmosphere setting when you shoot again next time so it will plot the difference.

If you use a G7 BC you do have to input it manually, and then you have to change "native drag model" to G7. For me this automatically changes the "use drag model" setting to match. I'm not sure what would happen if you used a G1, but told the app to use the G7 drag model. What I do is select the bullet from the list and then go back and change the BC numbers and native drag model setting to G7. This way it has the correct bullet weight and length for stabilization already.

Some of these settings I emailed the maker to get clarification on. I still don't know what upwind velocity is. Hope this helps.
