This build started early this year as two soldiers deployed in Afghanistan scheming about potential Alaska hunt plans when they returned from their deployment:)

Since moving to Alaska, I've come to appreciate a lighter rifle, and bringing in the range a smidgen from some of my hunting experiences in the L48 prior to the move. This rifle reflects those new realities for me. Steel is still way out there though:)

The intent was to have a 10.5 lb rifle w/a NXS that was very simliar in "foot print" to a factory Accumark, but built like Weatherby should've built it (according to me at least:) IMHO...Shawn built the exact rig that was in my head when this build started. It's pretty cool when it works out like that.

Reamer-Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Match (300 gr NABs at 3.775" are at the lands)
Optic-Euro Opticsupplied NXS 3.5-15x50 NPR-1 HS MOA turrets

I'm about to head the range to get this rifle and a new F-Class rig up and going. Shawn test fired, and provided load data for the 300 NABs, so it was ready to shoot out of the box. Looks like the load that worked for him out of the few he shot was 94 grains of Retumbo, F215s, 300 gr NABs, 2775 fps avg. I'll be sure to post up a target representative of it's precision potential once I have one I've shot.

I hope the specs, photos, and vids motivate someone to get started on thier build.

I can't say enough about the build experience with Straight Shooter Supply.

If I broke any protocol posting this up, mods, square me away. My motivation is to just relay/share when I find something that works for me, and I want to see others succeed. Straight Shooter Supply is one of those things IMHO.

Enough on my gabbin'...here's the stuff we all really read these threads for:

I can't get the feed/extract video to work here, but here's a link to where you can see it work.

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

That is a great looking rifle. I have had great success with Weatherby Mark V actions.

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

Straight Shooter just built me a 6.5x55 Swede with a 30" barrel that is a tack driver!!! Great people to work with, and they are building me a 338 LM when my Stiller action gets in.

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

I dont know what im more jelous of , the rifle or the back ground!!

Looks like a beautiful well though out rifle

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

Very nice execution of the "carry it a lot, shoot it a little" concept! That rifle will certainly lead a more interesting life than my 18lb 338LM safe queen.

I'm sure that the recoil with those warm 300gr loads is, uh, robust

Im sure it'll have a little "bump" simply from the inertia of kicking that heavy bullet in th ass that hard but Jim See's Muscle brakes work amazingly well!!!

I doubt it'll kick as hard or harder than a 10-12 pound 30-06 , and the stock desgine has a huge effect of how the shooter precieves the recoil and that Mark V style works great for guns that bite back

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

I have not had Shawn build me anything but I did order my FCP-K and a couple .22s for my kids through him, and after seeing some of his cerakoteing i plan on having a few things done as money allows. Super good guy to deal with.

V-Ref:
Very sharp rifle. What are the 2 colors on the barrel & action & what kind of paint?

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

That is very nice I really like the color contrast of the barrel and action with the flutes.

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

Great looking rig! Have you had a chance to get her to the range and check out what kind of groups she's laying down?

Re: Straight Shooter Supply 338 Lapua Mark V

ERT/Tackdriver

I've only put 6 rounds down it so far, the first two groups with the 300 NABs/94gr Retumbo/F215 were just under a moa, but I'm after better.

I'll post up once I get a load that this rifle likes. I think I'll try the 300 & 250 OTMs next. Should be within the week.
